National University publishes its Manila programme list college by college, and that list is shorter and more specific than most people expect from a university with a campus network this large. Below is the NU Manila catalogue exactly as the university groups it, followed by the admission mechanics and the two things about NU that catch applicants out.
Everything here comes from national-u.edu.ph. Directory listings and aggregator pages were not used.
The university's directory entry, with location and contact details, sits on our National University Manila profile. This post covers what that page does not: the programmes themselves.
College of Accountancy, Business and Management
- BS Accountancy
- BS Accounting Information System
- BS Management Accounting
- BS Business Administration major in Financial Management
- BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management
- Human Resource Management
- BS Real Estate Management
- Master in Business Administration
- Doctor of Business Administration
NU lists Human Resource Management under this college without a "BS Business Administration major in" prefix, unlike the financial and marketing tracks. If HR is your target, ask admissions what the conferred degree name on your diploma will actually read, because that string matters when you apply for work abroad or for a professional body. CHED's business administration standards define the majors precisely, and a degree title that does not match one of them can cause friction later.
College of Allied Health
- BS Nursing
- BS Pharmacy
- BS Medical Technology / Medical Laboratory Science
All three lead to a Professional Regulation Commission licensure examination, which makes this the college where accreditation status and passing rates matter most. See our BS Nursing guide for what that licence requires; pharmacy and medical technology each have their own board with its own eligibility rules.
College of Architecture
- BS Architecture
- BS Environmental Planning
Two degrees, both with licensure paths, though environmental planning's route to registration is different from architecture's. Confirm with the college which board your programme prepares you for before you enrol.
College of Computing and Information Technologies
- BS Computer Science
- BS Information Technology
- Associate in Computer Technology
- Master in Information Technology
- Master of Science in Computer Science
- Doctor of Information Technology
- Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science
The Associate in Computer Technology is the one to notice. It is a two-year programme sitting under the same college as the four-year degrees, which gives NU a laddered entry point for students who cannot commit to four years at once. If that is your situation, our guide to two-year courses in the Philippines explains how associate qualifications ladder up.
College of Education, Arts and Sciences
- Bachelor of Elementary Education
- Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English
- Bachelor of Physical Education
- BA Communication
- BA English Language Studies
- BA Political Science
- BS Psychology
- Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management
- Master of Arts in Education major in English Language Education
- Master of Arts in Education major in Filipino
- Master of Arts in Education major in Special Education
- Doctor of Education major in Educational Management
The teacher education offering is narrower than at a dedicated education school: one elementary programme and a single secondary major, English. If you want to teach mathematics, science or Filipino at secondary level, NU Manila's undergraduate menu does not currently carry that major, though the master's list does include Filipino and special education. Our guide on how to become a teacher in the Philippines explains which undergraduate degrees make you eligible for the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
NU's admissions page also references a Certificate in Professional Education, aimed at graduates of non-education degrees who need professional education units. It has its own requirements list separate from the graduate programmes.
College of Engineering
- BS Civil Engineering
- BS Computer Engineering
- BS Electrical Engineering
- BS Electronics Engineering
- BS Environmental and Sanitary Engineering
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering with specialization in Construction and Cost Management
- Master of Science in Computer Engineering with specialization in Applied Artificial Intelligence
- Master of Science in Sanitary Engineering
Six undergraduate engineering degrees, all with board examinations. Note that NU offers environmental and sanitary engineering, which relatively few Manila schools carry, and it has a matching master's in sanitary engineering.
College of Tourism and Hospitality Management
- BS Hospitality Management
- BS Tourism Management
The campus network, and why it matters
National University is not one campus. Its own site carries separate sections for NU MOA, NU Fairview, NU Dasmarinas, NU Laguna, NU Baliwag, NU Clark, NU Lipa, NU Bacolod, NU Cebu, NU Nazareth, NU East Ortigas and NU APC, each with its own admissions and scholarships pages and, crucially, its own programme list.
The lists genuinely differ. Doctor of Dental Medicine, for instance, appears on the site under NU MOA. Some campuses have a College of Computer Studies where Manila has a College of Computing and Information Technologies. Senior high school tracks are published campus by campus.
There is also a stale-page problem worth naming. An older NU Manila dentistry page is still reachable on the site even though dentistry does not appear on the current NU Manila programme menu. Pages like that are how applicants end up at the wrong campus. Before you apply anywhere in the NU network, open the campus section for the campus you actually plan to attend and read its own programme menu.
Admission requirements
NU Manila's admissions page publishes requirements by applicant type. For incoming college freshmen:
- Complete Grade 12 report card (Form 138)
- Certificate of good moral character
- Original PSA-authenticated birth certificate
- Recent 2x2 colour ID picture with white background
A recent chest X-ray result is listed as mandatory for all applicants across every entry level, which is easy to overlook until it delays your enrolment.
ALS and PEPT passers submit an additional set: the original certificate of passing, a certificate of rating, a photocopy of the diploma, and the original admission credentials from the school attended before taking ALS. Graduates from 2015 and earlier have their own short list. Transferees and second-degree takers submit a transcript, transfer credentials or honourable dismissal, course descriptions for credited subjects, and a certified true copy of the diploma if applicable.
International applicants need authenticated high school credentials, an authenticated certificate of good moral character, an ACR-I Card, an authenticated birth certificate, authenticated police clearance from the country of origin or departure, and an authenticated certificate of graduation. The ACR I-Card in particular takes time to secure, so start it early.
The NUAT
NU's FAQ page for Manila applicants describes the National University Admissions Test as follows: the testing fee is free, the test is scheduled on Saturdays, a result is valid for one year, a retake is allowed after one year, and rescheduling is arranged by calling the Admissions Office directly.
One honest caveat. That FAQ page still references the academic year in which NU moved to a trimestral calendar, which tells you it has not been fully refreshed in some time. Treat the free-of-charge and one-year-validity points as the university's published policy, but confirm the current test schedule with the Admissions Office rather than turning up on a Saturday on the strength of a web page. If you are sitting several entrance tests this cycle, our comparison of Philippine entrance exams will help you sequence them.
Tuition
NU's public academics landing leads with scholarships and discounts rather than a fee schedule. The named scholarship and discount programmes on that page include the Don Mariano F. Jhocson Gold Scholar, Dona Miguela M. Jhocson Blue Scholar, Dona Pacita J. Ocampo White Scholar, the Mariano Jhocson Science Scholarship Program, the Nationalian Scholarship Program, an alumni discount, an NU-NS loyalty discount, a discount for employees of SM and its affiliates, a sibling discount, athletics scholarships and the SM Foundation scholarship.
What you will not find easily is a per-programme tuition table. That means the only reliable number is the assessment the Admissions or Accounting office gives you for your specific programme and load. Our National University tuition fee guide explains how the cost structure works and what to ask for, and our SM Foundation scholarship guide covers that particular route in detail.
What to ask before you enrol
Three questions the website does not answer:
Which campus is my programme actually delivered at? NU has campuses with overlapping names and different lists. Get it in writing.
Is the programme page I am reading current? Dentistry under NU Manila is the clearest example of a page outliving the programme. Cross-check against the campus admissions page.
What is my full first-term assessment? Not tuition alone. Ask for the total including miscellaneous, laboratory and any programme-specific fees, so you are comparing like with like against other schools.
