University of Mindanao organises its academics into thirteen units, and unusually for a Philippine university, every one of them names its accreditation status and CHED designations right next to its programme list. That makes UM one of the easier schools to assess on paper, provided you read what the claims actually say.
This post lists the programmes each college publishes for the main campus, flags which ones lead to a Professional Regulation Commission licence, and points out where the university's own pages do not line up. Cost, campuses and scholarships are covered separately in our University of Mindanao tuition fee guide, and location details sit on the University of Mindanao profile.
College of Accounting Education
- Bachelor of Science in Accountancy
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System
- Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting
UM says this college has Level III PACUCOA accreditation and CHED Center of Development certification, and describes itself as having produced the most CPA Licensure Examination placers in the Davao Region. Only BS Accountancy leads to the CPA board; the other two do not.
College of Architecture and Fine Arts Education
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture
- Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design major in Painting
- Bachelor of Science in Interior Design
UM states it was the first to offer architecture in the Davao Region and claims Level IV PACUCOA accreditation for the programme, describing itself as the first architecture school in the country granted PACUCOA accreditation. Both Architecture and Interior Design correspond to PRC boards; Fine Arts and Design does not.
College of Arts and Sciences Education
- Bachelor of Arts in Communication
- Bachelor of Arts in English Language
- Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
- Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry
- Bachelor of Science in Biology with specialization in Ecology
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science
- Bachelor of Science in Forestry
- Bachelor of Science in Psychology
- Bachelor of Science in Social Work
Forestry, Psychology and Social Work all lead to PRC boards. Agroforestry, Biology and Environmental Science do not have boards of their own, which is normal for those fields but worth knowing before you plan a career around a licence. Forestry in particular is one of the smaller and less crowded licensed professions in the country, which is worth weighing if you want a board exam without competing against thousands of examinees.
One inconsistency to note: this college's page lists a Program Head for BS Mathematics, but BS Mathematics does not appear in its programme offerings. If mathematics is your target, ask the college directly whether the degree is currently open.
College of Business Administration Education
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Business Economics
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Financial Management
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Human Resource Management
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management
- Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration
- Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship
- Bachelor of Science in Legal Management
- Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Management
UM states it is the only school in Mindanao granted CHED Center of Excellence status for its business and management programmes, alongside Level IV PACUCOA accreditation.
Two of these are quiet standouts. BS Customs Administration leads to the Customs Brokers licensure examination, and BS Real Estate Management leads to the Real Estate Service board. Both are PRC-regulated professions with far fewer graduates competing than in accountancy or business administration. Our BS Customs Administration guide and BS Real Estate Management guide cover both routes.
College of Computing Education
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing major in Game Development
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
- Bachelor of Library and Information Science
- Bachelor of Multimedia Arts
UM claims Level IV PACUCOA accreditation, Center of Development status for computer science and information technology, PICAB accreditation from the Philippine Computer Society's Information and Computing Accreditation Board, and collaborations with Apple, Google, Microsoft and IBM.
The Game Development specialization is uncommon outside Metro Manila and Cebu. Note also that Bachelor of Library and Information Science leads to the Librarianship board, one of the 46 PRC-regulated professions and an often-overlooked route with steady public sector demand.
College of Criminal Justice Education
- Bachelor of Science in Criminology
A single programme, but UM describes it as the first criminology school in Mindanao granted Level IV PACUCOA accreditation and a CHED Center of Excellence, and claims regional topnotchers in the Criminologist Licensure Examination. Our BS Criminology guide covers the licensure path.
College of Engineering Education
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering major in Geotechnical
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering major in Structural
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering major in Transportation
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
UM says its Electrical Engineering programme was the first granted Level IV PACUCOA accreditation, and that computer, electrical and mechanical engineering hold CHED Center of Development status. It also cites membership in the ASEAN International Mobility of Students programme.
On licensure: chemical, civil, electrical, electronics and mechanical engineering all correspond to PRC boards. Computer engineering does not, and neither does materials engineering — the commission maintains a Metallurgical Engineering board, which is a different degree. If a licence is the point, that matters.
College of Health Sciences Education
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
All four lead to PRC boards, which makes this the most licensure-dense college in the university.
College of Hospitality Education
- Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management
- Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management
Both carry Level III PACUCOA accreditation according to the college. Neither leads to a board exam, which is normal for the field.
College of Teacher Education
- Bachelor of Elementary Education
- Bachelor of Physical Education
- Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies
- Bachelor of Special Needs Education major in Elementary School Teaching
UM claims CHED Center of Excellence status, DepEd Center of Teacher Training designation, Level IV PACUCOA accreditation and regional board placers in the Licensure Examination for Teachers. All programmes here lead to the LET.
College of Legal Education
The college confers the Juris Doctor, which appears as a distinct admission and enrolment track on the university's records and admissions pages. Its programme list is not itemised on the college page beyond that; the college describes a flexible learning approach and its University of Mindanao Legal Advocacy Network extension programme.
Professional Schools
UM's graduate arm is one of the largest in the region, and it says it was the first graduate school in the region accredited by any accrediting agency.
Master's programmes cover MA Education in educational management, teaching English, teaching Filipino, physical education, teaching science, teaching mathematics, technology and livelihood education and elementary education; the Master in Business Administration; Master in Public Administration; MS Criminal Justice; MS Psychology major in Clinical Psychology; Master in Environmental Planning; Master in International Tourism and Hospitality Management; Master in Information Technology; MS Social Work in advanced and direct practice tracks; MA Communication; Master in Library and Information Science; and Master in Engineering major in Civil Engineering.
Doctoral programmes cover the Doctor of Education in Educational Management, PhD in Filipino, PhD in Management, Doctor in Public Administration, Doctor in Business Administration, PhD in Criminal Justice, PhD in Applied Linguistics and PhD in Mathematics.
Note that Master in Environmental Planning matters practically: Environmental Planning is a PRC-regulated profession, and the master's degree is a standard route into it.
Technical School
- Automotive Servicing
- Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing
- Electrical Installation Maintenance
- Caregiving
These are technical-vocational programmes rather than degrees, and UM says the technical-vocational school has campuses in Bangoy, Davao City. If you are weighing a TESDA qualification against a four-year degree, our guide on how to get a TESDA certificate explains what the assessment involves.
Two things to check before you apply
Branch campuses do not carry the same list. UM operates the Bolton and Matina campuses in Davao City plus branches in Tagum, Panabo, Penaplata, Digos and Bansalan. The college pages above describe the main campus offering. Confirm your programme runs at the specific campus you plan to attend.
Application tracks are separate. UM publishes distinct admission requirements and enrolment procedures for old students, freshmen, transferees, professional schools, Juris Doctor, foreign students and basic education. Returning students are told they may proceed directly to online enrolment. Read the track that matches your status rather than a generic checklist, and use our college admission requirements checklist for the documents that recur nationally.
One last note on the accreditation claims. PACUCOA levels and CHED Center of Excellence or Center of Development designations are real and meaningful, but they are awarded for fixed terms and lapse if not renewed. Where a claim matters to your decision, check the current status with CHED and the accrediting body rather than relying on a page that may not have been updated since the award.
