The University of Baguio splits its higher education offerings across ten schools, each with its own website and its own acronym. Unlike its neighbour up the road, UB does not put every applicant through a single university-wide entrance exam — its published route for incoming freshmen is a credential-based reservation. Knowing that changes how you plan an application.
This post lists what each UB school publishes, flags which degrees actually lead to a Professional Regulation Commission licence, and covers the admission mechanics. Campus details and contacts sit on the University of Baguio profile.
The ten schools at a glance
| Acronym | School |
|---|---|
| SBAA | Business Administration and Accountancy |
| SCJPS | Criminal Justice and Public Safety |
| SOD | Dentistry |
| SEA | Engineering and Architecture |
| SIT | Information Technology |
| SIHTM | International Hospitality and Tourism Management |
| SOL | Law |
| SNS | Natural Sciences |
| SON | Nursing |
| STELA | Teacher Education and Liberal Arts |
A Graduate School sits alongside these, plus an elementary school, a high school and a separate science high school.
SBAA: Business Administration and Accountancy
- Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (4 years)
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (4 years), with majors in Financial Management, Human Resource Development Management, Marketing Management and Operations Management
- Master in Business Administration
- Doctor in Business Administration
Only Accountancy leads to a licensure exam here. BSBA does not, whichever major you take, so choose the major on employability grounds rather than expecting a board exam at the end.
SCJPS: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
- Bachelor of Science in Criminology
- Bachelor of Forensic Science
- Master of Science in Criminal Justice with specialization in Criminology
- Master in Crisis and Disaster Risk Reduction Management
- Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice with specialization in Criminology
UB describes this school as the first to offer BS Criminology in the North and a national pioneer of the Bachelor of Forensic Science.
The licensure point matters here. Criminology is one of the 46 PRC-regulated professions, so BS Criminology graduates sit the Criminologist Licensure Examination. Forensic science is not a separate PRC-regulated profession. A BFSc graduate does not sit a forensic science board because none exists; graduates typically head into crime laboratory, scientific and investigative work, or take further study. That is not a reason to avoid the degree, but it is a difference you should understand before choosing between the two. Our BS Criminology guide covers the licensed route.
SOD: Dentistry
- Doctor of Dental Medicine (6 years)
- Master in Dental Education (2 years)
DMD is a six-year programme at UB, entered directly rather than after a separate bachelor's degree. Dentistry is PRC-regulated, so graduates sit the Licensure Examination for Dentists.
SEA: Engineering and Architecture
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture (5 years)
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (4 years), with majors in Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (4 years), with majors in Instrumentation and Control, and Microelectronics
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering (4 years)
- Bachelor of Engineering Technology major in Mechatronics (4 years)
Four of these lead to a PRC board: architecture, civil engineering, electronics engineering and sanitary engineering all appear on the commission's list of professional regulatory boards. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology major in Mechatronics is not an engineering degree in the licensure sense — engineering technology is a distinct programme family and there is no mechatronics board. If your goal is to be a licensed engineer, that is the one to think twice about.
Note that UB does not offer mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial or geodetic engineering. If those are your target, you will be comparing UB against other Baguio institutions; our Baguio private schools roundup covers the local field.
SIT: Information Technology
- Associate in Computer Technology with specialization in Multimedia and Web Development
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
The Associate in Computer Technology is a shorter qualification that can serve as an entry point rather than a full degree. Our ladderized programmes guide explains how associate-to-bachelor stacking works in the Philippines and what to check before assuming credits carry over.
SIHTM: International Hospitality and Tourism Management
- Associate of Arts in Culinary Arts and Catering Operations (2 years)
- Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (4 years)
- Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (4 years), with majors in International Tourism, International Hospitality and Business Operations, and Professional Culinary Arts
None of these carry a PRC board exam, which is normal for the field.
SOL: Law
UB's law school frames its offerings differently from most:
- Master of Legal Studies (2 years)
- Master of Legal Studies, Juris Doctor (4 years)
The school states that the JD programme is the one that enables graduates to take the Bar examinations, and describes the MLS-JD as designed for working professionals, with a clinical legal education programme and externships. If your goal is the Bar, read the two programme descriptions carefully rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
SNS: Natural Sciences
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (4 years)
- Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (4 years)
Both are licensure programmes. See our BS Medical Technology guide for what one of them involves nationally; physical therapy has its own PRC board and a separate clinical internship requirement.
SON: Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (4 years)
UB describes the BSN as aligned with Level 6 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework and built around progressive Related Learning Experience.
STELA: Teacher Education and Liberal Arts
- Bachelor of Arts in Communication
- Bachelor of Arts in English Language
- Bachelor of Arts in Music
- Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
- Bachelor of Elementary Education
- Bachelor of Secondary Education
- Bachelor of Physical Education
- Bachelor of Science in Psychology
- Master of Arts in English
- Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management
- Master in Public Administration
- Doctor of Education major in Educational Management
- Doctor of Philosophy major in Development Education
BA Music is uncommon outside the conservatory schools and is worth noting if you are looking for a music degree in Northern Luzon. The education degrees lead to the Licensure Examination for Teachers, and psychology has its own PRC board at the psychometrician and psychologist levels.
How admission actually works at UB
UB's published process for incoming college freshmen is a reservation, not an entrance exam. That is the single biggest structural difference between UB and the exam-and-quota model used elsewhere in Baguio.
The requirements UB lists for a Grade 12 student expecting to graduate in the current year are a certified true copy of the Grade 11 report card (Form 138 or SF9) with complete and passing grades plus the Grade 12 first semester report card, a Certificate of No Failing Grades signed by the school principal, a signed Declaration, Waiver and Consent form, and a photocopy of the PSA birth certificate. Applicants who finished Grade 12 in an earlier year submit the original and a photocopy of the final report card plus the PSA birth certificate instead.
The steps run through the UB student portal: register as a new student, submit the waiver and consent agreement, hand over documents to the admission officer, and pay a reservation fee of ₱2,000.00 at the UB Cashier. UB states the reservation fee is non-refundable but is credited to your tuition once you enrol. There is an online version of the same flow using scanned documents and a submission form.
Reservation deadlines change every cycle and the published page has carried outdated dates in the past, so confirm the current cut-off directly with the admissions office rather than working from what a page says. Our college admission requirements checklist covers the documents that recur across Philippine universities.
Working professionals have a separate route. UB runs the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program, the CHED mechanism that converts documented work experience into academic credit toward a degree, and has announced CHED deputization covering twelve ETEEAP programmes.
Entrance scholarships, and what UB does not publish
UB publishes its entrance scholarship categories for college freshmen but not the value of each award. The categories are:
- Academic Excellence Award for senior high graduates with Highest Honors (GWA 98-100), High Honors (GWA 95-97) or Honors (GWA 90-94)
- Non-academic awards for a school paper Editor-in-Chief with a journalism award, or a Student Council President with a leadership award
- Partner school awards for regular-section graduates of Baguio City High School and Pines City National High School with a GWA of 85% and above, for science section graduates of both schools, and for graduates of science high schools or national high schools with a special science programme in Baguio, Benguet and other provinces
Every one of these is listed with a duration of one term. That is important: these are entrance awards, not four-year scholarships, and holding one for the following term depends on separate rules. The application link is sent to your UB student email after enrolment, so you cannot apply in advance.
What UB does not publish anywhere on its public site is a tuition schedule. There is no per-programme fee table and no assessment breakdown, only the ₱2,000.00 reservation fee. Fee assessments come from the Student Accounts Office. Any UB tuition figure you find on a directory or forum is somebody's estimate, not the university's published rate, so ask the school directly before budgeting.
