Imus Institute Courses Offered: Programs, Majors and Accreditation

TL;DR — Imus Institute of Science and Technology runs twelve college programs plus an MBA, and does something most schools do not: it tags PACUCOA accreditation levels directly onto its course list. Four programs sit at Level 3, one at Level 2, the rest untagged. Admission goes through an entrance test at the school's own Guidance and Testing Center, and the entrance examination fee is 210 pesos — the only fee figure the institution publishes anywhere. Its main website has since been reduced to a registrar-only page, so the program list needs reconfirming by phone.

Our Imus Institute overview covers the school's history back to Ymus Central Academy in 1923 and where it sits in Cavite. This piece goes program by program: what each degree contains, which majors exist under it, and which end at a licence.

A note on where this list comes from

IIST's website today is a registrar portal — Home, Enroll, About, Contact — with an institutional history page and an enrolment link. The full academic site that carried per-course pages under iist.edu.ph/web/academics/ is no longer served live.

Everything below comes from the school's own course and admission pages, from the last versions publicly captured (2023 to 2024). It is IIST's own wording, not a third-party listing. But a program list that has not been republished in a year or two is a list to confirm before you commit, especially the majors.

The college programs

The school presents its degree courses with accreditation tags, and explains the tag itself: "The courses are tagged with LV X. This tag means the level of the PACUCOA accreditation of the school's course."

Accredited at PACUCOA Level 3

Bachelor of Science in Accountancy — the CPA track. Level 3 is a meaningful signal for an accountancy program; it means PACUCOA has re-accredited the program beyond the initial grants. Note that IIST publishes BSA as a single program, not split into the accountancy/management accounting pair many schools now run. See BS Accountancy for what the CPA route demands.

Bachelor of Elementary Education, with majors in:

  • General Education
  • Special Education
  • Early Childhood Education

Bachelor of Secondary Education, with majors in:

  • English
  • Filipino
  • Physical Science
  • Biological Science
  • Mathematics
  • Values Education
  • Professional Education Units

Both education degrees end at the Licensure Examination for Teachers. The BEEd major spread is the strong point here — Special Education and Early Childhood Education are separate hiring markets from general elementary, and many Cavite schools do not offer them as distinct majors. The "Professional Education Units" line under BSED is the certificate route for degree holders who need education units to qualify for the LET.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with majors in:

  • Management Accounting
  • Financial Management
  • Operations Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Human Resource Development Management
  • Banking

Six majors under one BSBA is unusually granular for a school this size. None leads to a board exam. The Banking major is the uncommon one.

Accredited at PACUCOA Level 2

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science — no board exam. Level 2 is the only accreditation tag outside the four Level 3 programs, which tells you where the school has been investing.

Published without an accreditation tag

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology — no board exam; the practical difference from computer science here is emphasis on deployment and support rather than software construction.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering — no separate PRC licensure examination exists for computer engineering in the Philippines, so graduates compete on portfolio and experience rather than a licence.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering — ends at the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination. See BS Electronics Engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management — no board exam. BS HRM.
  • Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management — no board exam. BS Tourism Management.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Communication — no board exam.
  • Bachelor of Science in Social Work — ends at the Social Worker Licensure Examination, which people frequently do not realise is a licensed profession. BS Social Work covers it.

The absence of a tag is not evidence a program is unaccredited; it means the school did not print a level next to it. Ask the registrar directly if accreditation status matters to you.

Graduate

A Master in Business Administration is offered, with its own admission page.

Basic education and senior high

IIST is a full-ladder school. It runs Nursery/Kinder Prep, Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School with the academic strands ABM, HUMSS and STEM, plus Technical-Vocational-Livelihood in Home Economics and Industrial Arts.

The practical value of the ladder is continuity: an IIST senior high student in ABM moves into BSA or BSBA in the same institution, and a TVL Industrial Arts completer has a plausible route into the engineering programs.

How college admission actually works

Freshmen submit:

  • Form 138 or High School Report Card
  • Three recent 1x1 ID pictures, signed at the back
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character
  • Entrance Test Result from the IIST Guidance and Testing Center
  • Photocopy of Birth Certificate

Transferees submit a heavier set: honorable dismissal from the school of origin, certificate of good moral character, transcript of records or certification of subjects with course descriptions for evaluation, original transfer credentials issued to IIST specifically, entrance test result, three 1x1 photos, a PNP or barangay clearance, and a birth certificate photocopy. The police clearance requirement is worth flagging — it is not standard practice everywhere.

Cross-enrollees need an original cross-enrolment permit from their home school, a certificate of good moral character and three 1x1 photos.

Married female students must submit an authenticated copy of the marriage certificate to the Registrar's Office, because the school requires you to use the name on your birth certificate and admission credentials.

The enrolment sequence for new students

The school publishes this as an ordered process:

  1. Registrar checks credentials.
  2. Cashier receives payment of 210 pesos for the entrance examination.
  3. Student is given an envelope for the examination.
  4. Guidance and Testing Center administers the entrance examination.
  5. Guidance and Testing Center releases results; the psychometrician processes them.
  6. A Guidance Counselor conducts an interview, encodes your information and gives you a password for the online enrolment system.
  7. You collect the curriculum for your preferred course.
  8. Registrar evaluates subjects and encodes them into the Online Enrollment System.
  9. Accounting Department assesses the fees.
  10. Cashier receives payment.
  11. Clinic staff conduct a medical and dental check-up.

Two details stand out. The interview by a guidance counsellor is a real step, not a formality — it is where your password to the enrolment system comes from. And the medical and dental check-up sits at the end, on campus, so budget time for it on enrolment day.

What IIST does not publish

  • Tuition. The enrolment steps say the Accounting Department makes an assessment, but no rate is given for any level or program.
  • Scholarships. No scholarship page, no named awards, no discount policy.
  • Entrance exam coverage or passing mark.
  • Board exam passing rates for the four licensed programs.
  • A current, live course list. The academic pages are no longer served on the main site.

Registrar contacts are published by level: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], with the registrar landline at (046) 471 2624 and mobile 0917 654 8082.

How to confirm the list before you enrol

The program list above is the school's own, but it is not currently republished on the live site, so treat it as a starting point rather than a guarantee. Three checks are worth doing:

  1. Ask the college registrar directly which programs and majors are open for the coming school year. Majors are the part most likely to have quietly closed — a BSED major with too few enrollees usually stops running before the degree itself does.
  2. Ask for the current PACUCOA status per program, not just the level tags above. Accreditation levels expire and get renewed on a cycle, so a Level 3 tag from a page written two years ago is a claim to verify.
  3. Ask what the entrance test covers and whether the 210 peso fee still stands, since that is the only published figure and the oldest one.

For the licensed programs — accountancy, both education degrees, electronics engineering and social work — also ask for the most recent board passing rate and how many graduates sat the exam. A high percentage from three takers means something very different from the same percentage across forty.

Who IIST suits

A Cavite family that wants one school from kindergarten through a degree, with an accredited accountancy or education program at the end. The BEEd major spread and the Social Work program are the offerings hardest to find elsewhere in Imus. The catch is documentation: you will get almost no cost information without calling, and the online course list is stale.
