Courses Offered at Bulacan State University

TL;DR: Bulacan State University publishes 14 colleges and a Graduate School on its own academics page, and the list is broad — eight engineering degrees, 11 industrial technology specialisations, 12 teacher education programmes and a College of Law. It is also narrow in one direction that catches people out: Nursing is the only health-science degree on the list. There is no medicine, pharmacy, medical technology or physical therapy programme, and no standalone BS Computer Science.

Everything below is taken from BulSU's own academics page. Nothing here is assembled from a directory.

For address, contacts and reviews, see the Bulacan State University profile on SchoolFinderPH. This post is the programme list.

The structure: 14 colleges and one school

BulSU states its own structure plainly: "Bulacan State University has 14 Colleges, 1 School." The single school is the Graduate School. Here is the whole thing, college by college.

Engineering

The College of Engineering (COE) publishes eight degrees:

  • BS Civil Engineering
  • BS Computer Engineering
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • BS Electronics Engineering
  • BS Industrial Engineering
  • BS Manufacturing Engineering
  • BS Mechanical Engineering
  • BS Mechatronics Engineering

Eight is a wide lineup for a regional state university, and two of them are uncommon. Manufacturing Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering are not carried by most Philippine universities, which matters if you are hunting for a specific programme rather than a specific school.

Six of these eight lead to a Professional Regulation Commission licensure examination. Manufacturing and Mechatronics do not have their own board exams — a point worth checking against your career plan before you enrol, because it changes what your first job search looks like. For the licensed routes, see our civil engineering board exam guide, and for the computing-hardware side, our BS Computer Engineering guide.

Industrial Technology

The College of Industrial Technology (CIT) offers a Bachelor of Industrial Technology with 11 published specialisations:

Specialisation
Automotive
Computer
Drafting
Electrical
Electronics & Communication Technology
Electronics Technology
Food Processing Technology
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology (HVACR)
Mechanical
Mechatronics Technology
Welding Technology

Do not confuse this with engineering. Industrial technology is a technology degree aimed at technical, supervisory and instructional roles in industry; the engineering degrees above are the ones that feed the engineering licensure examinations. Both are legitimate and they lead to different places. The HVACR and welding tracks in particular map onto trades with real, immediate demand.

Teacher education

The College of Professional Teacher Education (CPTED) has the longest single list:

  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
  • Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • Bachelor of Physical Education
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, minor in Mandarin
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Sciences
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Values Education
  • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Home Economics
  • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Industrial Arts
  • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Information and Communication Technology

The English major carrying a Mandarin minor is unusual and is published that way by the university. If you are on a teaching track, our guide on how to become a teacher in the Philippines explains where the degree sits relative to the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Science

The College of Science (CS) publishes:

  • BS Biology
  • BS Environmental Science
  • BS Food Technology
  • BS Math with Specialization in Applied Statistics
  • BS Math with Specialization in Business Applications
  • BS Math with Specialization in Computer Science

Read that last one carefully. It is a mathematics degree with a computer science specialisation, not a BS Computer Science. If a BSCS diploma is what you need — some employers and most graduate programmes abroad read the degree title, not the specialisation — this is not it, and BulSU's published list does not carry a standalone BSCS.

Information and communications technology

The College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT):

  • BS Information Technology
  • BS Information System
  • Bachelor of Library and Information Science

Library and Information Science sitting under CICT rather than under education or arts is a structural choice worth noting if you are looking for it.

Business, accountancy and entrepreneurship

The College of Business Education and Accountancy (CBEA):

  • BS Accountancy
  • BS Business Administration major in Business Economics
  • BS Business Administration major in Financial Management
  • BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management
  • BS Entrepreneurship

Business Economics as a BSBA major is less common than Financial or Marketing Management and is the one to ask about if quantitative business work is your target.

Architecture, fine arts and the humanities

The College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA):

  • BS Architecture
  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Visual Communication

Landscape Architecture is a separate profession from architecture in the Philippines, with its own licensure examination, and very few universities offer the degree at all. If that is what you want, BulSU carrying it is a genuine reason to look here.

The College of Arts and Letters (CAL):

  • BA Broadcasting
  • BA Journalism
  • Bachelor of Performing Arts (Theater Track)
  • Batsilyer ng Sining sa Malikhaing Pagsulat

That last one is a creative writing degree taught and titled in Filipino. It is published exactly that way and is not a translation of an English-medium programme.

Social sciences, criminal justice and law

The College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP):

  • Bachelor of Public Administration
  • BS Psychology
  • BS Social Work

The College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE):

  • BS Criminology
  • BA Legal Management

The College of Law (CLaw):

  • Juris Doctor
  • Bachelor of Laws

BulSU lists both law degrees. The Juris Doctor is the current standard Philippine law degree; the Bachelor of Laws is the older title. Ask the College of Law which one it is actually admitting into before you plan around either. Either way, law is post-baccalaureate — you finish a bachelor's degree first, and the law school runs its own admission process.

Hospitality, tourism, sports and nursing

The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM):

  • BS Hospitality Management
  • BS Tourism Management

The College of Sports, Exercise and Recreation (CSER):

  • BS Exercise and Sports Sciences with specialisation in Fitness and Sports Coaching
  • BS Exercise and Sports Sciences with specialisation in Fitness and Sports Management
  • Certificate of Physical Education

A dedicated sports and exercise science college is rare outside the large metro universities, and the split between coaching and management tracks is a real fork, not a label.

The College of Nursing (CN):

  • BS Nursing

That is the entire health-science offering. See the gaps section below.

Graduate School

BulSU's Graduate School publishes:

  • Doctor of Education
  • Doctor of Philosophy
  • Doctor of Public Administration
  • Master in Business Administration
  • Master in Physical Education
  • Master in Public Administration
  • Master of Arts in Education
  • Master of Engineering Program
  • Master of Industrial Technology Management
  • Master of Information Technology
  • Master of Manufacturing Engineering
  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Master of Science in Computer Engineering
  • Master of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering

The engineering side of the graduate list is deep — five separate engineering master's routes — which lines up with the strength of the undergraduate engineering college. The "Doctor of Philosophy" entry is listed without a field; ask the Graduate School which disciplines it currently runs.

The gaps: what BulSU does not offer

This is the part that saves people a wasted application.

  • No medicine, pharmacy, medical technology, physical therapy, radiologic technology or midwifery. Nursing stands alone in the health sciences.
  • No standalone BS Computer Science. The nearest offerings are the BS Math with Computer Science specialisation and the CICT degrees.
  • No chemical, geodetic, mining, sanitary or agricultural engineering. The eight engineering degrees listed above are the full set.
  • No agriculture, veterinary medicine or forestry, despite Bulacan being an agricultural province. Food Technology and Food Processing Technology are the closest adjacent programmes.

If any of those is your target, the published list will not change and you should be looking at another university.

Campuses and cost

BulSU operates more than one campus. Public accounts of the university describe six: the Main Campus in Malolos plus campuses in Bustos, San Jose del Monte (Sarmiento), Bulakan (Meneses), Hagonoy and San Rafael. The master programme list above is university-wide and does not break down by campus. BulSU maintains its own campuses page under its academics section, and the Registrar is the authority on which programmes run where. Do not assume the Malolos list is available at a satellite campus.

On cost: BulSU is a state university, which places it under Republic Act 10931, the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. That law provides free tuition and other school fees at state universities and colleges for students who meet its conditions. It is not a blanket waiver of everything — the law has exclusions and coverage rules, and some fees sit outside it. Our free tuition universities guide and the CHED free tuition guide explain what the law actually covers and who loses eligibility. BulSU also publishes a Schedule of Fees from its own site, which is the document to ask for if you want the specifics for your programme.

Sources

Programme offerings change between academic years, and a course on a university-wide list is not a guarantee it runs at the campus nearest you. Confirm with BulSU's Registrar before you build an application around any of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many colleges does Bulacan State University have?

BulSU states on its own academics page that it has 14 colleges and one school. The colleges are Architecture and Fine Arts, Arts and Letters, Business Education and Accountancy, Criminal Justice Education, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Information and Communications Technology, Industrial Technology, Law, Nursing, Engineering, Professional Teacher Education, Science, Sports Exercise and Recreation, and Social Sciences and Philosophy. The one school is the Graduate School.

Does BulSU offer BS Computer Science?

Not as a standalone degree on the published list. BulSU's College of Science offers a Bachelor of Science in Math with Specialization in Computer Science, and its College of Information and Communications Technology offers BS Information Technology and BS Information System. If you specifically want a BS Computer Science diploma, check with the Registrar before assuming any of these substitutes for it.

What engineering courses does BulSU offer?

Eight. BulSU's College of Engineering publishes Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. That is one of the broader engineering lineups among state universities in Central Luzon, and it includes Mechatronics and Manufacturing, which many universities do not carry.

Is tuition free at Bulacan State University?

BulSU is a state university, so it falls under Republic Act 10931, the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, which provides free tuition and other school fees for students in state universities and colleges who meet the law's conditions. Free tuition does not cover every cost, and the law has exclusions, so read the coverage rules rather than assuming everything is waived.

Does BulSU offer medicine, pharmacy or medical technology?

None of those appear on BulSU's published college programme list. Nursing is the only health-science degree the university lists. If you are aiming for pharmacy, medical technology, physical therapy or a medical degree, BulSU's published list does not carry them.

How many campuses does BulSU have?

Six, according to public accounts of the university: the Main Campus in Malolos plus campuses in Bustos, San Jose del Monte (Sarmiento), Bulakan (Meneses), Hagonoy and San Rafael. BulSU's academics section carries a campuses page, and that is where to confirm which programmes each campus actually runs, since the master programme list does not break down by campus.

Does BulSU have a law school?

Yes. The College of Law lists both a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Laws. The Juris Doctor is the current standard Philippine law degree. Law is a post-baccalaureate programme, so you need a completed bachelor's degree before applying, and law schools have their own admission requirements separate from undergraduate admission.

What is Bachelor of Industrial Technology at BulSU?

It is a technology degree distinct from engineering, and BulSU offers it with 11 published specialisations including automotive, computer, drafting, electrical, electronics, food processing, HVACR, mechanical, mechatronics technology and welding. It is aimed at technical and supervisory industry roles rather than at the engineering licensure examinations.
