Quirino State University, Maddela

Quirino State University was created by Republic Act No. 10230, enacted in 2012, which converted the Quirino State College at Diffun into a state university and integrated the Quirino Polytechnic College at Cabarroguis and the Maddela Institute of Technology at Maddela. Its mandate spans arts and sciences, education, agriculture, industrial technology and engineering, information technology, business and accountancy, tourism and hospitality, health services and criminology. The Maddela campus is the former Maddela Institute of Technology, the second institution integrated by the 2012 Act. Maddela is the largest municipality in Quirino by land area and lies in the province's eastern interior, well beyond Diffun and Cabarroguis, along the upper Cagayan River system. The campus is the university's presence in that harder-to-reach part of the province, and its technological origin still shapes what it offers. The university as a whole is young by Philippine standards, converted from state college only in 2012, and all three of its campuses were pre-existing institutions in the province rather than new foundations. Maddela's position in the eastern interior means the campus serves communities for whom the alternative would be travelling to Isabela or Nueva Vizcaya for higher education.
