Pangasinan State University-Alaminos City

The Alaminos City campus is the newest unit of Pangasinan State University and, unlike the rest of the system, it did not begin as an older school absorbed into the university. It began as a local government initiative. The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Alaminos endorsed and approved its establishment through SP Resolution No. 2007-84, adopted on 16 November 2007, and the university's Board of Regents approved the proposed campus on 19 April 2009. The city funded the physical plant directly, allotting an initial ten million pesos in 2008 for the first campus building and a further fifteen million in 2011 for a second phase, prompted by a fast-growing student population. Alaminos sits in western Pangasinan near the Hundred Islands, and the campus serves a part of the province that previously had no state university presence within easy reach. The campus began with a feasibility study commissioned before establishment, and a memorandum of agreement between the city government and the university set the terms on which it was set up. Its origin as a locally-initiated, locally-funded campus rather than an absorbed institution remains unusual within the system.
