Pangasinan Polytechnic College

Pangasinan Polytechnic College is a local college established by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan in 2024, and it is a genuine first: no provincial government in Pangasinan, or in the wider region, had previously run a tertiary institution of its own. Municipal and city governments have long operated community colleges, but provincial-level provision is a different undertaking, and the college was set up to deliver free tertiary education and lifelong learning to Pangasinenses across the province rather than within one town. It opened its doors on 14 February. Being provincially run, it is answerable to the provincial government rather than to the national system that governs state universities and colleges, and its base at Lingayen places it at the provincial capital alongside the seat of that government. For applicants, the practical differences from a state university are governance and scale rather than recognition: programmes at local colleges are still recognised by the Commission on Higher Education, but funding, admission policy and fee decisions rest with the provincial government. Pangasinan already hosts a nine-campus state university, so the college was created to widen access rather than to substitute for it.
