Mariano Marcos State University- Main Campus

Mariano Marcos State University was established on 6 January 1978 by Presidential Decree No. 1279, which merged the Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology at Batac with the Northern Luzon State College at Laoag City, and integrated the college departments of the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College and the Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades. Its mandate covers advanced instruction in the arts, the agricultural and natural sciences, and technological and professional fields. Batac is the main campus and was the seat of the Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology, the larger of the two institutions named in the merger. That college already operated a multi-site network before 1978, with campuses at Batac, Currimao, Paoay and Dingras, all of which carried into the university. The main campus therefore inherited both an administrative role and an existing spread of sites, which is why several MMSU units elsewhere in Ilocos Norte trace their lineage through Batac rather than directly to the 1978 decree.
