Mariano Marcos State University-College of Teacher Education-Laoag City

Mariano Marcos State University was established on 6 January 1978 by Presidential Decree No. 1279, which merged the Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology at Batac with the Northern Luzon State College at Laoag City, and integrated the college departments of the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College and the Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades. Its mandate covers advanced instruction in the arts, the agricultural and natural sciences, and technological and professional fields. The College of Teacher Education at Laoag City descends from the Northern Luzon State College, the Laoag institution merged with Batac to form the university. Northern Luzon State College was the teacher-training institution of the pair, and that function passed intact into the new university rather than being redistributed. Laoag is the provincial capital of Ilocos Norte, and the campus's position there keeps teacher education close to the province's largest concentration of schools for practicum placement.
