Isabela State University, Palanan Extension
Isabela State University was established by Presidential Decree No. 1434 on 10 June 1978. A second wave of expansion came in 2002, when three CHED-Supervised Institutions were integrated into the system: the Roxas Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School at Roxas, the Delfin Albano Memorial Institute of Agriculture and Technology at San Mariano, and the Angadanan Agro-Industrial College at Angadanan. Palanan came later and by a different route again. The university extended its academic programmes to Palanan at the request of the Provincial Government of Isabela, with the campus established in 2004 and teaching beginning in the first semester of school year 2005-2006. Palanan lies on the Pacific coast on the far side of the Sierra Madre, historically reachable only by light aircraft or boat rather than by road, which is precisely why a provincial request for a local campus was made. It remains among the most isolated campuses in the Philippine state university system.
