Isabela State University, Jones
Isabela State University was established by Presidential Decree No. 1434 on 10 June 1978, merging the Isabela State College of Agriculture at Echague with the Cagayan Valley Institute of Technology at Cabagan. The college-level courses of three further institutions were transferred in at the same time: the Isabela School of Arts and Trades at Ilagan, the Jones Rural School at Jones, and the Roxas Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School at San Mateo. The Jones campus came into the university from the Jones Rural School, one of the three institutions whose college-level courses were transferred in 1978 rather than being merged whole. Rural schools of that kind were established across the Philippines to carry practical agricultural and vocational instruction into municipalities away from provincial centres, and the campus continues to serve that role in the southern part of Isabela. Jones sits inland along the Cagayan River in the province's southwest, some distance from both the Echague main campus and the provincial capital.
