Isabela State University, Ilagan

Isabela State University was established by Presidential Decree No. 1434 on 10 June 1978, merging the Isabela State College of Agriculture at Echague with the Cagayan Valley Institute of Technology at Cabagan. The college-level courses of three further institutions were transferred in at the same time: the Isabela School of Arts and Trades at Ilagan, the Jones Rural School at Jones, and the Roxas Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School at San Mateo. The Ilagan campus entered the university through the third of those routes rather than the founding merger. It was the Isabela School of Arts and Trades, and it was the school's college-level courses that were transferred into the new university in 1978, with the trade school's lower levels remaining outside it. That distinction is worth noting when reading the campus's history: what joined Isabela State University was a set of degree programmes and the staff attached to them. Ilagan is the provincial capital of Isabela, which gives the campus a central position within the eleven-campus system.
