Isabela State University, Cabagan

Isabela State University was established by Presidential Decree No. 1434 on 10 June 1978, merging the Isabela State College of Agriculture at Echague with the Cagayan Valley Institute of Technology at Cabagan. The college-level courses of three further institutions were transferred in at the same time: the Isabela School of Arts and Trades at Ilagan, the Jones Rural School at Jones, and the Roxas Memorial Agricultural and Industrial School at San Mateo. The Cabagan campus is the other founding half of that merger, and its history runs back further than the university itself. State education in this part of the Cagayan Valley began in early 1916 with the opening of the Isabela Farm School, operating at elementary level, which was later converted into Cabagan Rural High School. Cabagan High School opened in 1950 and ran on provincial government funding until its conversion into the Cabagan National Agricultural School in 1958. It subsequently became the Cagayan Valley Institute of Technology, the institution named in PD 1434 alongside Echague.
