Cagayan State University, Lasam

Cagayan State University was created by Presidential Decree No. 1436, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos on 11 June 1978, drawing together state institutions across Cagayan into a single multi-campus university. The charter was crafted by then-Minister Juan Ponce Enrile. The Lasam campus entered that system from the Western Cagayan School of Arts and Trades in Lasam, a vocational institution whose post-secondary courses qualified it to become one of the university's satellite campuses when the charter took effect on 11 June 1978. The transition was untidy in practice: the vocational school administrator was on study leave during the organisation of the university system that year. Enrolment grew sharply from school year 1995-1996, when the campus began offering the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a shift that broadened it well beyond its arts-and-trades origins. Lasam sits inland along the Cagayan River in the province's western interior. CHED currently lists 7 recognised programmes at this campus — 7 bachelor's — concentrated in arts and sciences, teacher education and computing. Programme recognition changes over time, so confirm the current offering with the campus registrar.
