Cagayan State University, Lara Campus
The Solana-Lara campus is the newest addition to Cagayan State University, which was itself created by Presidential Decree No. 1436 on 11 June 1978. It began as the Solana Extension Campus and was converted into a full campus by Republic Act No. 11858, known as the CSU Solana-Lara Campus Act, which originated as House Bill 9179 championed by Congressman Jojo Lasam Lara of Cagayan's third district. Senator Joel Villanueva, then chair of the Senate committee on higher, technical and vocational education, carried it through the Senate. The campus exists in physical terms because of two private contributions: a land donation from Dr. Zara Guzman Lara, and infrastructure funding secured by Congressman Lara. Classes opened in September 2022 with 359 students drawn from Solana and nearby municipalities, and enrolment reached 747 the following September once a second year group had joined. Solana sits across the Cagayan River from Tuguegarao, close enough to the regional centre that the campus serves students who would otherwise commute.
