Cagayan State University, Gonzaga

Cagayan State University was created by Presidential Decree No. 1436, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos on 11 June 1978, drawing together state institutions across Cagayan into a single multi-campus university. The charter was crafted by then-Minister Juan Ponce Enrile. The Gonzaga campus opened in school year 1947-1948 as Gonzaga Junior High School, becoming Gonzaga High School in 1953. In 1960, in response to demand for agricultural education, its curriculum was converted into a secondary agriculture programme for boys and a secondary agricultural homemaking programme for girls. Further renaming followed in 1962, first to Gonzaga National Rural High School and then to Gonzaga National and Vocational School. Post-secondary work began in 1975 with a two-year Associate in Agricultural Technology and a two-year Agricultural Technician Curriculum, which is the point at which the institution moved beyond secondary education. Gonzaga sits at the northeastern tip of Cagayan facing the Babuyan Channel. CHED currently lists 9 recognised programmes at this campus — 9 bachelor's — concentrated in teacher education, computing and arts and sciences.
