Cagayan State University, Carig

Cagayan State University was created by Presidential Decree No. 1436 on 11 June 1978, consolidating existing post-secondary institutions across Cagayan into a single legal entity. That is why the university exists today as a constellation of campuses — Andrews, Carig, Piat, Lasam, Lal-lo, Aparri, Sanchez Mira and Gonzaga — rather than as one site with satellites. The Carig campus in Tuguegarao City was developed after the university began operating, on a site acquired to give the new institution room that the older Caritan campus could not provide. Its significance is administrative as much as academic: the university's central administration transferred here from Caritan on 11 June 1984, though it has since moved back to the Andrews campus. Carig remains one of the two Tuguegarao campuses, and the pair are often confused precisely because they sit in the same city and have swapped administrative functions between them. CHED currently lists 42 recognised programmes at this campus — 41 bachelor's and 1 doctoral — concentrated in arts and sciences, engineering and computing. Programme recognition changes over time, so confirm the current offering with the campus registrar.
