Courses Offered at St. Scholastica's College Manila

TL;DR: SSC Manila publishes six college units, and they are wildly uneven in size. The School of Music alone publishes ten qualifications across degree, diploma and certificate level. The School of Education publishes one. The School of Nursing page names no degree at all. The Graduate School page currently lists two master's programmes. On the money side SSC does something most schools in this batch do not: it publishes downloadable schedules of fees and payment schemes for every level.

This is taken from St. Scholastica's College Manila's own programme pages. Where a page publishes nothing, that is reported as a gap rather than filled from elsewhere.

The six college units

SSC groups its college offerings this way on its own College Unit page:

UnitPublished programmes
School of Music10
School of Arts and Sciences5
School of Business and Accountancy2
School of Education1
School of Nursingnone named
Department of Hotel, Leisure and Restaurant Management3

Note the naming: the hospitality unit is a department, not a school, and the School of Nursing sits alongside the others despite publishing no programme list.

School of Music: the largest and oldest offering

SSC pioneered formal music education in the Philippines when it opened a Conservatory of Music in 1920, and the School of Music is still the deepest part of its college offering. Ten listings, at three award levels:

Bachelor's degrees

  • Bachelor of Music in Performance — intensive training in a chosen instrument or voice, aimed at professional performance careers
  • Bachelor of Music in Music Composition
  • Bachelor of Music in Music Education, with specialisation in piano, voice, strings, winds or percussion
  • Bachelor of Music in Voice with Emphasis in Musical Theater — SSC describes it as interdisciplinary, combining intensive performance training with academic research and industry exposure
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music Production and Technology — music theory and composition combined with recording, mixing and engineering

Diplomas

  • Diploma in Music Performance
  • Diploma in Music Production and Technology
  • Diploma in Music Composition

Certificate

  • Certificate in Music Performance — foundational training in a chosen instrument or voice

SSC describes the diplomas as focused, shorter routes for students who want professional-level skill without the full degree. That is a genuinely different product from a four-year bachelor's, and it is worth asking what each one credits toward if you later want the degree.

School of Arts and Sciences: five programmes, two with licences

  • BA Communication — with minor tracks in Advocacy Filmmaking, Communication for Development, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Multimedia Journalism. SSC frames the programme around gender fairness, ecological harmony, social justice and peace advocacy, which is consistent rather than decorative given the school's history.
  • BA Political Science with Specialization in International Relations — SSC positions it for government, foreign service, social development, public information, education and research, and as preparation for law.
  • Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED) — also listed under the School of Education.
  • BS Psychology — leads to the psychometrician licensure exam at bachelor's level. Our BS Psychology guide covers what that opens and what it does not.
  • BS Interior Design — SSC describes it as blending liberal arts with studio skills. Interior design is a PRC-regulated profession.

The School of Arts and Sciences publishes a direct line: 85677686 local 2292.

Business and accountancy: two programmes, one heavily documented

BS Accountancy gets the most detailed write-up of any programme on the site. SSC publishes the unit count — 223 total course units, of which 173 are the common business, management, accounting and professional courses prescribed by CHED under CMO 27 — and states that the programme holds Level 3 re-accreditation status. It leads to the CPA licensure examination. Our BS Accountancy guide covers the national picture.

BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management is the second listed programme. The School's own prose also refers to a curriculum in "Marketing Management and International Business Economics and Diplomacy", which reads like a second major or a specialisation that has not made it onto the programme list. Ask the school which it is; the contact is 85677686 local 2298.

School of Education: one programme

The School of Education publishes exactly one: Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED). SSC's description is unusually specific about the destination — graduates are prepared to teach the basic education curriculum and alternate curricula, in inclusive and segregated settings, at elementary level across subject areas or at secondary level as educational support in inclusive classrooms and special education centres.

It also states the licensure condition without softening it: a graduate "should be able to work in regular and special education schools as a teacher, provided that she passes the Licensure Examination for Teachers in her subject area of specialization."

If you are looking for BEEd or BSEd with a conventional major, SSC's college pages do not publish one.

School of Nursing: a real gap

The School of Nursing has a page. It publishes a vision, a mission, and seven core values. It names its clinical partners: Makati Medical Center as base hospital, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, St. Claire's Medical Center and the Manila City Health Department. It gives a contact number, 85677888 local 3388.

It does not name a degree. No BSN, no year length, no entry requirement, no accreditation level.

That is worth flagging rather than papering over. A base-hospital arrangement with Makati Medical Center is a substantial thing for a nursing student — it is the difference between competing for placements and having them arranged. But you cannot enrol in a partner list. If nursing is your target, call that local first and ask what the programme is called, how long it runs, and what its recent licensure results look like. Our BS Nursing guide sets out what to compare.

Hotel, Leisure and Restaurant Management: three programmes

  • BS Hospitality with specialization in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Management — SSC lists fourteen career destinations for it, from executive chef and chef de partie through garde manger, pastry chef, caterer, wine sommelier, R&D chef and culinary instructor.
  • BS Hospitality with specialization in Hotel and Restaurant Administration — oriented toward supervisory roles in hotel operations and management.
  • BS Tourism Management

The department states that internships run both in the Philippines and abroad. Neither hospitality specialisation leads to a PRC board exam, and neither does tourism management, so choose on curriculum and internship placement rather than licensure.

Graduate School: two programmes on the live page

The Graduate School page publishes a vision, mission and goals, and then lists its programmes. As currently published, that list is short: Master of Arts in Psychology and Master of Music in Music Education.

SSC has historically offered a much wider graduate menu — counselling, special education, preschool management, accountancy, business management, piano and string pedagogy, and humanities with a women's studies major have all appeared in its materials. None of those are on the live list today. If one of them is what you want, treat it as a question for the Graduate School rather than an assumption.

Basic education, and the school that runs at night

Pre-School and Grade School. Grades 1 to 6, with explicit instruction in English, the Singapore Math approach, and enrichment in Robotics, Scholastic Lit Pro, and Drama and Theater in Education.

Junior High School. Grades 7 to 10, PAASCU Level III accredited, taught through a blended learning approach built on the 5E instructional model. Beyond the DepEd standards, JHS runs Robotics as a Science enrichment subject, a customised Special Filipino and Araling Panlipunan programme for foreign students, and Advanced Learners in Math and Science (ALMS), a block section that doubles as the competition training pool.

Senior High School. SSC's page names six strands in the section describing each one's Social Change Leadership culminating project: STEM (a grassroots innovation capstone), ABM (a social enterprise mini-company), HUMSS (a short film on a social issue), GAS (a mental health awareness project), Visual Arts (an exhibit) and Music (a self-produced recital). Sports and technical-vocational strands appear in older listings but not in that section — confirm before choosing. Our guide to SHS strands and job demand is a useful cross-check.

Night Secondary School. This one has no equivalent at most private schools. Begun in 1970 as a free terminal-vocational programme for young women forced out of school by economic circumstances — initially the household helpers working in the sisters' community — it still runs, and SSC publishes its history at length. It is a direct continuation of the free elementary school the Benedictine sisters ran when they arrived, and it is the clearest signal of what the institution thinks it is for.

What SSC does publish that others do not

Fees. Its Schedule of Fees page carries downloadable PDFs for grade school, high school, college and graduate school for the school year, and a separate Payment Schemes section with installment plan documents per level. That is more disclosure than most private colleges in Manila manage, and it means you can compare a real assessment rather than an estimate before you visit.

One practical note: the site is best reached at ssc.edu.ph directly. Some older links to the www subdomain do not resolve cleanly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many college units does St. Scholastica's College Manila have?

Six. The School of Music, the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Accountancy, the School of Education, the School of Nursing, and the Department of Hotel, Leisure and Restaurant Management. SSC lists the last one as a department rather than a school.

Does St. Scholastica's College offer nursing?

SSC lists a School of Nursing among its college units and publishes a page for it, but that page names no degree. What it does publish are its clinical partners: Makati Medical Center as base hospital, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, St. Claire's Medical Center and the Manila City Health Department. Contact the School of Nursing directly for the programme name and entry requirements.

What music degrees does SSC offer?

Ten listings across three levels. Bachelor of Music in Performance, in Music Composition, in Music Education, and in Voice with emphasis in Musical Theater; Bachelor of Arts in Music Production and Technology; diplomas in Music Performance, Music Production and Technology, and Music Composition; and a Certificate in Music Performance. The Music Education degree offers specialisation in piano, voice, strings, winds or percussion.

What SHS strands does St. Scholastica's College offer?

Its senior high page names six in the section describing each strand's culminating project: STEM, ABM, HUMSS, GAS, Visual Arts and Music. Older listings elsewhere also mention Sports and technical-vocational strands, which do not appear in that section, so confirm the current line-up with the admissions office before choosing.

Is St. Scholastica's College still all-girls?

No. SSC began accepting male students from school year 2024-2025. Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten are co-ed, Grades 1 to 10 remain girls only, and Senior High School opened to boys in the Arts and Design track. Check the current position per level with admissions, since the policy has been changing.

Which SSC programmes lead to a board exam?

BS Accountancy leads to the CPA licensure exam. The Bachelor of Special Needs Education leads to the Licensure Examination for Teachers, and SSC states on its own page that a graduate can work in regular and special education schools provided she passes it. BS Psychology leads to the psychometrician exam, BS Interior Design to the interior designer licensure exam, and nursing to the nurse licensure exam.

How many units is the BS Accountancy programme at SSC?

223 total course units, of which 173 are the common business, management, accounting and professional courses prescribed by CHED under CMO 27. The remainder is general education and institutional courses. SSC also states the programme holds Level 3 re-accreditation status.

Does SSC publish its tuition?

Yes, and it is one of the few schools in this batch that does. Its Schedule of Fees page carries downloadable PDFs for grade school, high school, college and graduate school for the school year, plus separate payment scheme and installment plan documents for each level.
