Courses Offered at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila

TL;DR: Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila publishes 15 academic units and names every programme under each on its own Colleges page. The list runs from Accountancy and Engineering through Medicine, Law and a Graduate School of Law. Two things worth knowing before you rely on any other listing: PLM runs four separate admission tests, not one, and no criminology programme appears anywhere on PLM's own published list, despite several directories attributing a College of Criminology to it.

Everything below comes from PLM's own Colleges page, which carries a per-college programme listing. Nothing here is assembled from a course directory.

For address, contacts and reviews, see the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila profile on SchoolFinderPH. For PLM's public-versus-private status, its free-tuition rules for Manila residents and its board exam record, see our PLM courses and tuition guide. This post is strictly the programme list.

The 15 academic units

PLM's Colleges page lists these, and only these:

UnitAbbreviation
College of AccountancyCA
College of Architecture and Sustainable Built EnvironmentsCASBE
College of Business AdministrationCBA
College of EducationCED
College of EngineeringCE
College of Humanities, Arts and Social SciencesCHASS
College of Information Systems and Technology ManagementCISTM
College of LawCL
College of MedicineCM
College of NursingCN
College of Physical TherapyCPT
College of Public AdministrationCPA
College of ScienceCS
College of Tourism and Hospitality ManagementCTHM
Graduate School of LawGSL

The College of Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments name is worth noticing. PLM renamed the unit around sustainability rather than keeping a plain architecture label, which tells you something about the curriculum's direction.

Note also that Law appears twice: the College of Law for the Juris Doctor, and a separate Graduate School of Law for the Master of Laws. Those are different programmes for different people.

Engineering

The College of Engineering publishes:

  • BS Chemical Engineering
  • BS Civil Engineering
  • BS Civil Engineering with specialisation in Construction Management
  • BS Civil Engineering with specialisation in Structural Engineering
  • BS Computer Engineering
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • BS Electronics Engineering
  • BS Manufacturing Engineering
  • BS Mechanical Engineering

Two points. First, Civil Engineering is published in three forms — general, construction management, and structural. If you already know you want structural work, PLM lets you commit at intake rather than specialising later.

Second, Manufacturing Engineering is uncommon in the Philippines and has no separate PRC licensure examination of its own, unlike Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Chemical. Computer Engineering is in the same position. Check the PRC's list of regulated professions against your target degree before you enrol, because it determines whether "board exam" is even part of your plan.

There is no industrial, mechatronics, geodetic, sanitary, metallurgical or aerospace engineering on PLM's list.

Business, accountancy and public administration

College of Accountancy publishes a single programme: BS Accountancy.

College of Business Administration:

  • BSBA major in Business Economics
  • BSBA major in Financial Management
  • BSBA major in Human Resource Management
  • BSBA major in Marketing Management
  • BSBA major in Operations Management
  • BS Entrepreneurship
  • BS Real Estate Management
  • Graduate: Doctor in Business Administration, Master in Business Administration

BS Real Estate Management is the find here. It is a distinct degree, not a BSBA major, and very few Philippine universities offer it. Real estate service practice in the Philippines is a regulated profession with its own licensure route, so this is a directed degree rather than a generalist business one.

College of Public Administration:

  • Bachelor of Public Administration
  • Graduate: Doctor of Public Administration, Master of Public Administration

A standalone undergraduate public administration degree with its own doctoral programme is unusual, and it fits a city-funded university that feeds local government.

Science and health

College of Science:

  • BS Biology
  • BS Biology major in Cell and Molecular Biology
  • BS Biology major in Ecology
  • BS Biology major in Medical Biology
  • BS Chemistry
  • BS Mathematics
  • BS Psychology
  • Graduate: MA Psychology with specialisation in Clinical Psychology, and a second MA Psychology track

Biology in four variants is the notable structure. The Medical Biology major in particular is the pre-medicine-shaped route if PLM's College of Medicine is your eventual target. Psychology sits under Science here rather than under humanities, which is a meaningful signal about how the curriculum is weighted — our BS Psychology guide explains why that placement affects what you actually study.

College of Nursing: BS Nursing, plus a Master of Arts in Nursing.

College of Physical Therapy: BS Physical Therapy, plus a Master of Physical Therapy and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. Two separate master's routes in physical therapy is more than most Philippine universities offer.

College of Medicine: Doctor of Medicine, an Enhanced Medicine Program (eMED), and a Master of Public Health. All three are listed as graduate-level, which is correct — Philippine medicine requires a completed bachelor's degree first. Our Physician Licensure Examination guide covers what follows the degree.

Humanities, arts and social sciences

The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences publishes:

  • BA Communication
  • BA Communication with specialisation in Public Relations
  • Bachelor of Music in Music Performance
  • BS Social Work
  • Graduate: Master of Arts in Communication, Master of Social Work

A Bachelor of Music in Music Performance at a city-funded university is genuinely unusual. If you are a performer looking at conservatory-style training without private-conservatory fees, this line is the reason to look at PLM.

Note that PLM publishes BA Communication, not "BA Mass Communication." Older listings elsewhere still use the retired name.

Computing, education, architecture and hospitality

College of Information Systems and Technology Management: BS Computer Science and BS Information Technology, published as two separate degrees. They are not interchangeable — see our BS Computer Science guide for how the two differ in coursework and outcomes.

College of Education:

  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
  • Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • Bachelor of Physical Education
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Sciences and Social Studies
  • Bachelor of Special Needs Education (Generalist)
  • Graduate: Doctor of Education major in Educational Management and Leadership; MA in Special Education specialising in Developmental Delays (non-thesis); MA in Education majoring in Biological Science, Chemistry, Educational Management and Leadership, Physics, or Social Sciences; and an MS in Mathematics Education

That graduate education list is deep — five subject-specific MA routes plus a mathematics education MS. It is aimed squarely at practising teachers upgrading.

College of Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments: BS Architecture.

College of Tourism and Hospitality Management: BS Hospitality Management and BS Tourism Management.

Four admission tests, not one

This is the mechanical detail most guides get wrong. PLM's own admissions navigation lists four separate admission routes:

  1. PLM Admission Test — the general undergraduate entrance examination
  2. College of Medicine Admission Test — separate, for the medical programmes
  3. College of Law Admission Test — separate, for the Juris Doctor
  4. Graduate Program — its own route

If you are applying to Medicine or Law, passing the general PLMAT is not the path. Those colleges run their own tests. Applications go through PLM's online applicant system, and examination schedules and application windows change every cycle — take those dates from PLM's own admissions page, never from a repost or a screenshot circulating on social media.

What PLM does not offer

Being blunt about the absences is the most useful thing here, because PLM is widely mis-listed.

No criminology. Several course directories attribute a College of Criminology and a BS Criminology to PLM. No such unit and no such programme appear on PLM's own Colleges page, which lists all 15 academic units and their programmes. This guide is not going to declare the directories wrong on PLM's behalf, but it will say clearly what the university itself publishes — and it does not publish criminology. If that degree is your plan, confirm directly with PLM's Office of Admissions before you build anything around it.

Also absent from the published list:

  • No pharmacy, medical technology, radiologic technology, midwifery, respiratory therapy or dentistry. Nursing, Physical Therapy and Medicine are the health offerings.
  • No standalone BS Economics. Business Economics exists as a BSBA major, which is a different degree.
  • No agriculture, veterinary medicine, fisheries or forestry, which is unsurprising for an Intramuros campus.
  • No maritime programmes.

Cost and eligibility

PLM is funded by the City of Manila rather than by the national government, which puts it in a different category from state universities and from private schools. Its tuition rules turn on Manila residency rather than on a national free-tuition law. That is covered in full in our PLM courses and tuition guide, and the wider landscape of city-funded universities is in our guide to free city universities in Metro Manila.

The short version: check your residency status before you check the programme list, because it changes the entire financial picture.

Programme offerings change between academic years and PLM's own listings are periodically revised. Confirm with PLM's Office of Admissions or the relevant college before you commit to an application.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many colleges does PLM have?

Fifteen academic units appear on PLM's own Colleges page: Accountancy; Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments; Business Administration; Education; Engineering; Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Information Systems and Technology Management; Law; Medicine; Nursing; Physical Therapy; Public Administration; Science; Tourism and Hospitality Management; and the Graduate School of Law.

Does PLM offer criminology?

No criminology programme appears on PLM's own published college listings. Several third-party directories attribute a College of Criminology to PLM, but the university's own Colleges page lists no such unit and no BS Criminology among the programmes of any of its 15 academic units. Confirm directly with PLM before planning around it.

What engineering courses does PLM offer?

The College of Engineering publishes Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, with Civil Engineering additionally offered in two specialised tracks, Construction Management and Structural Engineering. There is no industrial, mechatronics, geodetic or sanitary engineering on the list.

Does PLM offer BS Computer Science?

Yes. The College of Information Systems and Technology Management publishes both BS Computer Science and BS Information Technology as separate degrees. They are different qualifications with different course loads, so pick deliberately rather than treating them as interchangeable.

How many admission tests does PLM run?

Four separate ones, according to its own admissions navigation: the PLM Admission Test, the College of Medicine Admission Test, the College of Law Admission Test, and a graduate programme route. Applying to Medicine or Law means sitting that college's own test, not the general PLMAT. Schedules change every cycle, so take dates from PLM directly.

Does PLM have a medical school?

Yes. The College of Medicine publishes a Doctor of Medicine programme, an Enhanced Medicine Program (eMED) and a Master of Public Health, all listed as graduate-level. Medicine in the Philippines requires a completed bachelor's degree first, and PLM runs a separate College of Medicine Admission Test.

What unusual degrees does PLM offer?

Three stand out on the published list: Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Management under the College of Business Administration, Bachelor of Music in Music Performance under the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and BS Biology offered with three separate majors in Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology, and Medical Biology.

Does PLM offer pharmacy, medical technology or dentistry?

None of those appear on PLM's published list. Its health programmes are Nursing, Physical Therapy and the College of Medicine offerings. If you are aiming for pharmacy, medical technology, radiologic technology, midwifery or dentistry, PLM does not publish them.
