TL;DR — Northwestern University in Laoag publishes nine undergraduate areas and nine postgraduate programmes on its homepage, and that is all it publishes. Every academics page behind that list — Colleges, Basic Education, Graduate School, Law, TESDA, ETEEAP — currently reads "Page Under Development", and the old site's programme pages return 404. If you need the exact degree names, you have to email the university.
The address, phone and level flags are on the Northwestern University record, and other schools in the area sit on the Laoag schools page.
What we checked and what we found
We opened NWU's live site at nwu.edu.ph and worked through every academics link on it. The result, as of writing:
| Page | Status |
|---|---|
| Homepage | Live, with a programme summary |
| Academics | Page Under Development |
| Colleges | Page Under Development |
| Basic Education | Page Under Development |
| Graduate School | Page Under Development |
| Law | Page Under Development |
| TESDA | Page Under Development |
| ETEEAP | Page Under Development |
| Enroll | Live, but a landing page only |
We also tried the URLs that search engines still index from NWU's previous site, including its programme offerings page and its college pages. All return 404. The old site's PDF prospectuses, which used to carry curriculum detail, are gone with it.
None of that means the programmes stopped running. It means the university is mid-migration and the public record has a hole in it. We are writing what we can verify rather than filling that hole with a guess, because an invented course list is worse than an incomplete one.
What NWU does publish
The homepage carries the summary that the section pages do not.
Basic education: preschool, elementary, junior high school, senior high school. No strand list.
Undergraduate areas — nine, published as fields rather than as degree titles:
- Allied Health Sciences
- Arts and Sciences
- Business Education
- Maritime Education
- Teacher Education
- Criminal Justice Education
- Engineering, Architecture, and Technology
- International Hospitality and Tourism Management
- Culinary Arts
Postgraduate and professional programmes — these are published as actual programme names:
- MA Education
- PhD Development Education
- EdD Educational Management
- MA Nursing major in Maternal and Child Nursing
- MS Management Engineering
- MS Criminal Justice Education
- PhD in Education and Leadership
- MA Public Administration
- Law School
Alongside those, the academics menu carries ETEEAP, TESDA and microcredential divisions, which together tell you NWU runs short and equivalency routes as well as degrees.
Reading the nine areas honestly
You cannot enrol in an area, so what follows is what each area normally implies, flagged as inference rather than as a published fact.
Allied Health Sciences is the heaviest signal. The presence of an MA Nursing with a maternal and child specialisation implies a nursing undergraduate feeding it. Allied health at a regional university typically covers nursing, medical technology, radiologic technology and physical therapy, all of which are PRC-licensed. Confirm the exact list before you plan around it.
Maritime Education is the area that most needs verifying, and it is the one where verification matters most. Maritime programmes are regulated far more tightly than ordinary degrees: they need approved facilities, approved shipboard training arrangements and current regulatory standing, and an out-of-date accreditation can cost a graduate a career at sea. Ask for current documentation, not a brochure.
Criminal Justice Education implies BS Criminology, which ends in the criminologist licensure exam. The MS Criminal Justice Education above it supports that reading.
Teacher Education implies elementary and secondary education degrees, all of which end in the Licensure Examination for Teachers. Three of NWU's nine postgraduate programmes are education doctorates or masters, which is a genuine institutional strength and worth knowing if teaching is your plan. Our BSEd guide covers the undergraduate route.
Culinary Arts listed separately from Hospitality and Tourism is unusual and probably meaningful. Most schools bury culinary as a specialisation inside hospitality. Listing it on its own suggests a dedicated programme, possibly with a TESDA-qualification component. Worth asking about specifically.
Admission
NWU's homepage FAQ is more forthcoming than its academics pages. Published freshman requirements:
- SF09, the senior high report card
- Certificate of good moral character
- PSA birth certificate or marriage certificate, photocopy
- Dual citizenship certificate, if applicable
- Certificate of academic honour, if applicable
For law, master's and doctoral entrants, new students and transferees:
- Transfer credentials or certificate of transfer
- Official transcript of records for the bachelor's degree
- A general weighted average certificate for law applicants and for BSE and BEEd graduates entering the MA in Education
- PSA birth or marriage certificate, photocopy
- Dual citizenship certificate, if applicable
The enrolment landing page refers to a diagnostic exam for applicants. No fee, schedule or cut-off is published, and the word "diagnostic" usually signals placement rather than selection. Ask which it is for your programme.
Cost
NWU publishes no tuition figures and no fee schedule. Its scholarship section lists three categories — institutional scholarships and tuition fee discounts, CHED-administered and other government-sponsored scholarships, and privately sponsored scholarships — with no amounts, no eligibility rules and no application deadlines attached on the public pages.
CHED-administered aid is worth chasing regardless of the school's own page. As a private university NWU is outside CHED's free tuition scheme for state and local colleges, but the Tertiary Education Subsidy and Tulong Dunong routes reach students at private schools. Our government student aid guide sets out what is available.
The three non-degree routes
Sitting alongside the colleges in NWU's academics menu are three divisions that are easy to skim past and are often the right answer for an adult applicant.
ETEEAP credits documented work experience toward a bachelor's degree. If you have been doing a job for years without the qualification that nominally requires it, this is the route that assesses what you already know rather than making you sit through all of it. It is an assessment, not a giveaway, and the outcome can still be substantial coursework.
TESDA programmes are short, competency-based and nationally certified. They stack with a degree rather than replacing it, and an NC II or NC III is an employable qualification on its own. Our TESDA courses guide explains the levels.
Microcredentials are the newest of the three and the least standardised across the sector. Before paying for one, ask what it is recognised by and who accepts it, because a microcredential's value comes entirely from that answer.
How to verify a programme yourself
Because NWU's own pages are down, it is worth knowing that a school's website is not the only record of what it is allowed to teach.
- CHED holds the authority for higher education programmes and for a school's permits and recognitions. A degree without a CHED permit is a problem you want to find before enrolling, not after. Our CHED explainer covers what the agency does.
- PRC publishes which programmes lead to which licensure examinations, and publishes performance by school for each exam. That is the number that matters for any licensed course, and it is independent of the school's marketing.
- DepEd covers the basic education side, including which senior high strands a school is permitted to offer.
Use those three when a school's own site cannot answer you. It is slower than reading a programme page, and it is more reliable.
What to do instead of guessing
Email [email protected] and ask for three things in one message: the current list of degree programmes with majors, the current senior high strand list, and a first-year fee assessment for the programme you want. Ask for it as a document rather than as a reply, so you have something to compare against other schools. If maritime or an allied health programme is your target, add a request for current accreditation and regulatory standing.
We will update this page when NWU's academics pages come out of development.
