Courses Offered at Colegio de San Juan de Letran

Colegio de San Juan de Letran publishes 27 academic programmes across its colleges, and it publishes something more useful than that: which specific degrees a full scholarship attaches to. If your grades are strong and your course is on that list, Letran is worth a serious look.

Below is the Manila campus programme list college by college, taken from Letran's own academics pages. It also flags two places where Letran's own website will mislead you if you read it quickly.

Letran's address and contact details are on our Colegio de San Juan de Letran profile. This post covers the courses.

College of Business Administration and Accountancy

  • BS Accountancy
  • BS Accounting Information System
  • BS Entrepreneurship
  • BS Business Administration major in Economics
  • BS Business Administration major in Financial Management
  • BS Business Administration major in Human Resource Management
  • BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management
  • BS Business Administration major in Operations Management
  • BS Nutrition and Dietetics
  • BS Food Technology
  • BS Tourism Management
  • BS Hospitality Management

Two of these sit somewhere unexpected. BS Nutrition and Dietetics and BS Food Technology are filed under the business college rather than a science or health college. That does not change either degree, both of which are science-heavy, but it does change which dean's office handles your case. Our BS Nutrition and Dietetics guide covers what that degree involves, including the licensure route for dietitians. Food technology has no equivalent board.

BS Accountancy and BS Nutrition and Dietetics are the two licensure-track programmes in this college. The rest are non-licensure business and hospitality degrees.

College of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences

Education

  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics
  • Teacher's Certificate Program

The Teacher's Certificate Program is aimed at people who already hold a non-education bachelor's degree and need professional education units to sit the Licensure Examination for Teachers. Letran publishes it as a fully online class set-up, with one year to complete the 18 units needed for LEPT eligibility and two years for full programme completion. That is a genuinely practical route for career changers. Our guide on how to become a teacher in the Philippines covers both the degree route and the certificate route.

Institute of Communication

  • BA Advertising
  • BA Broadcasting
  • BA Communication
  • BA Journalism

Four separate communication degrees is more granular than most Philippine universities, which typically run one AB Communication with electives. If you already know you want newsroom work or advertising specifically, that granularity is an advantage. Our AB Communication guide explains how the field is structured and, importantly, how differently schools name these degrees.

Social sciences

  • BA Political Science
  • BA Legal Management
  • BA Psychology

Note that Letran confers psychology as a BA rather than a BS. That distinction affects graduate study and the psychometrician route, so read our BS versus AB Psychology explainer before assuming they are interchangeable.

College of Engineering and Information Technology

  • BS Civil Engineering
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • BS Electronics Engineering
  • BS Industrial Engineering
  • BS Information Technology

Four engineering programmes, all with board examinations, plus information technology, which has none. Our BS Civil Engineering guide covers what one of those licensure routes requires.

Notably, Letran does not publish BS Computer Science or BS Computer Engineering in this college. If either is your target, this is not your school.

Graduate School

Letran's Graduate School is a business school and nothing else. It publishes three programmes:

  • Master in Business Administration (Standard Program), described as 36 units with 30 units of coursework and 6 units of thesis writing and defence
  • Master in Business Administration (Special Management Program), described as modular and intensive with 36 units of coursework plus a 3-unit Business Project Paper, offering stand-alone certificates and seminar-based learning
  • Doctor in Business Administration, with two tracks, Management Consultancy or Educational Leadership

Published eligibility is a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, plus a minimum of two years' work experience for the MBA Standard Program, at least three years of relevant management or supervisory experience for the Special Management Program, and a completed master's degree for the DBA.

Letran also states that the entrance examination is waived until further notice, with interviews still possible. Treat "until further notice" as provisional and confirm before you plan around it. Note also that the two MBA variants differ in their final output, a thesis in one and a business project paper in the other.

Senior high school and basic education

Letran runs elementary, junior high school, a Home Study Program and senior high school. The senior high department publishes four strands: Accountancy, Business and Management; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Information and Communication Technology; and Home Economics, with integrated HUMSS and General Academic programmes. It describes itself as PAASCU Accredited Level I at senior high level.

The ABM strand includes TESDA national certificate assessments in bookkeeping and events management services, and the Home Economics strand includes barista and food and beverage services certification. Those national certificates are separate credentials from the senior high diploma and are worth confirming are actually assessed on campus.

Published reservation fees for basic education enrolment are PHP 1,000 for old students, PHP 3,000 for new students and PHP 5,000 for transferees, all non-refundable but deductible from total fees.

The trap on Letran's own website

Letran's senior high school strand pages each carry a block headed "possible courses/program". Under STEM, for example, that list includes BS Nursing, BS Medical Technology, BS Biology, BS Computer Science, BS Data Science and BS Mathematics. Under Home Economics it includes BS Culinary Arts, BS Agriculture and BS Forestry.

Letran does not offer those programmes. None of them appear on any of its college programme pages. Those lists describe where a strand can take a student at any university in the country, which is normal careers guidance, but on a school's own website it reads exactly like a course catalogue.

If you want nursing, computer science or agriculture, check Letran's college pages, find that they are not there, and look elsewhere. This is the single most likely way to waste an application to Letran.

How many colleges, really

Letran's academic programmes page says the school offers its programmes "through its four dynamic colleges", naming Business Administration and Accountancy, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, and Engineering and Information Technology. Its own navigation menu lists three college pages, with education and liberal arts combined as the College of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The same page carries an unfinished placeholder in place of the Vice President for Academic Affairs' message, which is a fair signal that the section has not been fully updated. None of this changes the programme list, but it is a reason to confirm structural details with the college rather than assume.

Letran does publish two things on that page worth taking seriously: it holds Deregulated Status from CHED, and it counts 12 programmes at PAASCU Level III accreditation, 2 at Level II, 5 at Level I, plus one certificate programme. Accreditation levels are programme-specific, so ask which level applies to the programme you want rather than to the school overall.

Scholarships tied to specific courses

Letran publishes two named scholarships for incoming freshmen on its college pages.

Rector's Scholarship. Incoming college freshmen who obtained the "with highest honors" rank qualify automatically with no qualifying examination. It carries a full discount on all fees except selected miscellaneous and supplementary fees.

Blessed Jesus Villaverde Andres Academic Scholarship. Open to incoming college freshmen with at least a 90 percent general weighted average during Grade 11, who intend to enrol in one of a named set of programmes: Accountancy, Education (English and Mathematics), Nutrition and Dietetics, Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial) or Psychology. It covers free tuition, free miscellaneous fees except selected supplementary fees, and free board and lodging with meals, subject to terms and conditions.

That second one is unusual. Board and lodging with meals is a real financial difference for provincial students, and the eligibility list is short and specific. If your grades and your intended course both fit, ask the Admissions Office about it directly rather than waiting to be offered it. Get the terms and conditions in writing, because the board and lodging component is the part most likely to carry conditions.

Fees

Letran links a schedule of fees and an e-brochure from its college pages, and a separate schedule of fees for the Graduate School's first term. As with most private colleges, the reliable number is the assessment you receive for your specific programme and load. Our Letran tuition fee guide explains how the cost structure works.

Other Letran campuses

Letran operates as a network, and the Manila campus in Intramuros is only one part of it. Other campuses run their own admissions and publish their own programme lists, which differ from Manila's. Everything on this page is the Intramuros list. If you are applying elsewhere in the network, work from that campus's own materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many colleges does Letran Manila have?

Letran's academic programmes page describes four colleges: Business Administration and Accountancy, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, and Engineering and Information Technology. Its own navigation menu, however, lists three college pages, with education and liberal arts combined into a single College of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences. Ask the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs which structure is current.

Does Letran offer engineering?

Yes. The College of Engineering and Information Technology publishes five four-year programmes: BS Civil Engineering, BS Electronics Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering, BS Industrial Engineering and BS Information Technology. Four of those five lead to a professional licensure examination.

Does Letran offer nursing, medical technology or computer science?

Not on its published college programme pages. Those titles appear only on Letran's senior high school strand pages, in lists headed "possible courses" that describe where a strand can take you at any university, not what Letran itself offers. Read the college pages, not the strand pages, to see what Letran teaches.

What is Letran's Teacher Certificate Program?

A programme for holders of non-education bachelor's degrees who need professional education units to qualify for the teaching licensure examination. Letran describes it as a fully online class set-up, with one year to complete the 18 units needed for eligibility and two years for full programme completion.

Is there an entrance exam for Letran's Graduate School?

Letran's Graduate School page states that the entrance examination is waived until further notice, and that interviews may still be conducted to assess eligibility. "Until further notice" is exactly as provisional as it sounds, so confirm with the Admissions Office for the term you are applying.

What scholarships does Letran publish for incoming freshmen?

Two are named on its college pages. The Rector's Scholarship automatically covers incoming college freshmen who graduated with highest honours, with no qualifying examination, giving a full discount on all fees except selected miscellaneous and supplementary fees. The Blessed Jesus Villaverde Andres Academic Scholarship is open to freshmen with at least a 90 percent general weighted average in Grade 11 who are entering specific programmes, and covers tuition, miscellaneous fees and board and lodging with meals, subject to terms and conditions.

Is Letran Calamba the same school as Letran Manila?

No. They are separate campuses in the Letran network with separate admissions and their own programme lists. Everything on this page is from the Intramuros, Manila site. If Calamba is your target, work from that campus's own materials.
