Courses Offered at Good Samaritan Colleges, Cabanatuan

TL;DR: Good Samaritan Colleges runs a health-heavy line-up where almost every college programme ends at a PRC licensure exam — Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and two teaching degrees. What makes it unusual for a provincial college is that GSC owns the two hospitals its students train in. What makes research awkward is that goodsam.edu.ph currently serves a "we're getting a fresh new look" placeholder on every path, so its programme pages have to be read from the school's own site build rather than the live domain.

A note on sourcing, because it matters here

At the time of writing, every URL on www.goodsam.edu.ph — the homepage, /programs, /academics, /admission — returns the same maintenance placeholder. There is no readable programme content on the live domain.

The programme detail below comes from GSC's own site build, published at its Squarespace address, which carries the school's Burgos Avenue address, its published landline (044) 464-3212, and its [email protected] email. It is the school's own content, not a directory's summary. But it is a site in transition, so verify anything decisive by phone before you act on it. GSC publishes separate admissions locals per level, which is the fastest route: junior high local 115, senior high local 107, undergraduate local 145, graduate local 161.

What GSC publishes, and how it groups it

There are two groupings on the same site, which is worth knowing before you go looking.

The Offered Programs page splits college into a College of Education, Arts and Sciences and a College of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals. The Undergraduate Programs page splits the health side differently, into a College of Nursing and Midwifery and a College of Allied Health Professions, and omits the education programmes entirely.

Same institution, two organisational charts. Ask which is current if the college name matters to you — for transcripts and PRC applications, it sometimes does.

The five health programmes

ProgrammeLengthThe part people underestimate
BS Nursing4 yearsRelated Learning Experiences threaded from first year through fourth, plus an intensive nursing practicum
BS Medical Technology4 yearsFourth year is a full one-year internship in a CHED-accredited training laboratory
BS Respiratory Therapy4 yearsA 1,500-hour clinical internship across both semesters of fourth year
BS Radiologic Technology4 yearsFourth year is a Clinical Education Training Program in accredited affiliation centres
BS Midwifery4 yearsLadderized, so exit points exist below the full degree

Nursing is GSC's flagship. It opened in 1977, four years after the college itself, and GSC still describes it as the programme that brings the school its reputation. The BSN structure is standard — general education plus professional courses, with RLE running through all four years — but the practicum is described as intensive and aimed at entry-level nurse competencies. See our BS Nursing guide for what to compare across schools.

Medical Technology carries the rotation list you would expect from a serious programme: clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology, immunohaematology, immunology and serology, urinalysis and body fluids, parasitology, and histopathologic and cytologic techniques.

Respiratory Therapy is the one to look at hardest, because 1,500 hours is a lot and the rotation list is specific: pulmonary diagnostics, general respiratory care, adult ICU, neonatal and paediatric critical care, sleep laboratory, and pulmonary rehabilitation. A programme cannot deliver that without real facilities. Our BS Respiratory Therapy guide covers the field's job market.

Radiologic Technology trains in general radiography plus ultrasound, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and interventional radiology. GSC has offered it since 1985.

Midwifery is where the institution started — GSC opened in 1973 as a School of Midwifery with ninety students — and it is published as a ladderized four-year degree, meaning intermediate qualifications exist along the way. That matters for anyone who may need to work before finishing.

Why the hospitals change the maths

GSC's founders, Dr. Peregrin P. De Guzman, Sr. and Mrs. Catalina Tinio De Guzman, established Nueva Ecija Good Samaritan General Hospital in 1978, when the law required every nursing college to have its own hospital. The law was later amended. They kept the hospital anyway, and in 1998 opened a second branch in Gapan City.

GSC's claim on its own site is that it is the only school in Nueva Ecija with two hospital centres. For a health student, that is not marketing. Clinical hours are the bottleneck in every allied health programme in the country, and a school that owns its training sites is not competing for slots with three other colleges in the same city.

Two questions to ask anyway: how many students per rotation, and which of the five programmes actually train at both sites.

Education: two degrees and a bridge

  • BS Elementary Education — GSC uses that wording; the DepEd and CHED standard name is Bachelor of Elementary Education, so expect both to appear on paperwork. GSC describes a structured practicum it calls "Tatak ng Gurong Samaritano", with intensive placement in partner institutions.
  • Bachelor in Secondary Education major in English — emphasis on language proficiency, research, design thinking and problem solving.
  • Professional Education Course — a non-degree programme for people who already hold a bachelor's in any field and want to teach at secondary level. This is the route for a career changer who needs professional education units before sitting the LET. GSC does not publish its length or unit count, which is the first thing to ask.

All three routes point at the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Graduate programmes

Master of Arts in Education — twelve units of core courses, fifteen units of major courses in a specialisation, six units of cognates in a related area, and a nine-unit thesis requirement. That is a conventional 42-unit structure, published clearly.

Master of Arts in Nursing — twelve units of core and fifteen of major, constant across tracks, plus six units of cognates specific to the track chosen. GSC names three tracks: Nursing, Administration Services, and Clinical Education.

Junior and Senior High School

Junior High covers Grades 7 to 10 and is Level 2 accredited by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities – Accrediting Council Inc. (ACSCU-ACI). GSC states it was the number one private school in Cabanatuan City by enrolment as of 2019, up from 1,030 students in 2016.

Senior High offers three strands — STEM, HUMSS and ABM — framed as college preparatory. GSC positions the STEM strand explicitly toward medical and health-related courses, which is coherent given what the college itself offers. Both levels run an IT curriculum through a partnership with BSD Education Group (Hong Kong), plus a Scholastic Reading programme.

If you are choosing a strand, our guide to SHS strands and job demand is worth reading against GSC's own college line-up — the pipeline from GSC STEM into GSC health programmes is the obvious path, and it is fair to ask what proportion of students actually take it.

What GSC used to offer and no longer lists

GSC's own history page records a long expansion between 1985 and 2010: BS Physical Therapy (1993), BS Medical Technology (1993), BS Computer Science (1995), Associate in Pulmonary Therapy (1989), Certificate in Health Aide (1989), Caregiver Course (2001), BSEd and BEEd (2002), AB Communication (2008), BS Hotel and Restaurant Management (2009), BS Travel Management (2009) and AB Behavioral Science (2010).

Of those, only medical technology and the education degrees appear on the current programme list. Physical therapy, computer science, communication, hospitality, travel management and behavioural science are not published today. If someone tells you GSC offers one of them, they are probably reading an old page.

The FEU connection

On 25 August 2022, GSC signed an investment agreement with Far Eastern University, formalised at FEU Makati with the boards of trustees and executive officers of both institutions present. GSC describes it as a strategic partnership to strengthen academic capability and expand opportunities for students and faculty.

Fair questions to ask admissions: does it affect curriculum, faculty exchange, credit transfer to FEU, or fees. GSC's page does not say.

What is not published

  • No tuition or fees, at any level, anywhere on the site.
  • No admission requirements or entrance exam details.
  • No enrolment dates.
  • No board exam passing rates, despite a health-heavy programme mix where those numbers matter most. Ask for them by programme and by year; our board exam passing rates by course explains how to read the answer.

Who GSC suits

A Nueva Ecija student aiming at a licensed health profession who wants clinical training inside an institution that owns its hospitals, and who is comfortable ringing an admissions local rather than reading everything online. Anyone wanting business, computing, engineering or a broad arts degree should look elsewhere in the province — GSC no longer publishes those.

See the GSC directory record for location and phone, or compare with other schools in Cabanatuan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What courses does Good Samaritan Colleges offer?

Five health programmes — Nursing, Medical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Radiologic Technology and Midwifery — plus BS Elementary Education, Secondary Education major in English, and a non-degree Professional Education Course. At graduate level it publishes Master of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Nursing. Basic education covers Junior and Senior High School.

Which GSC courses lead to a board exam?

Nearly all of them. Nursing leads to the nurse licensure exam, Midwifery to the midwife licensure exam, Medical Technology to the medical technologist board, Radiologic Technology to the radiologic technology board, Respiratory Therapy to the respiratory therapist board, and both education degrees to the Licensure Examination for Teachers. That is an unusually licence-heavy line-up for a small college.

Does Good Samaritan Colleges have its own hospital?

Two. Nueva Ecija Good Samaritan General Hospital was founded by the same couple who founded the college in 1978, and a second branch opened in Gapan City in 1998. GSC describes itself as the only school in Nueva Ecija with two hospital centres, which is why its health students train in facilities the institution controls rather than ones it rents access to.

What SHS strands does GSC offer?

Three: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Accountancy and Business Management. GSC frames its senior high curriculum as college preparatory and runs an information technology component through a partnership with BSD Education Group in Hong Kong.

Is GSC connected to Far Eastern University?

Yes. GSC signed an investment agreement with FEU on 25 August 2022 at FEU Makati, attended by the boards and executive officers of both institutions. GSC describes it as a strategic partnership to strengthen academic capability rather than a change of name or ownership of the campus.

How long is the Respiratory Therapy internship at GSC?

1,500 hours, run across the first and second semesters of fourth year in a CHED-DOH accredited training respiratory laboratory, with rotations through pulmonary diagnostics, general respiratory care, adult intensive care, neonatal and paediatric critical care, the sleep laboratory and pulmonary rehabilitation.

What is the Professional Education Course at GSC?

A non-degree programme for people who already hold a bachelor's degree in any field and want to teach at secondary level. It supplies the professional education units that a non-education graduate needs before sitting the Licensure Examination for Teachers. GSC does not publish its length or unit count.

Does GSC still offer physical therapy or computer science?

Not on its current programme pages. GSC's own history records BS Physical Therapy from 1993, BS Computer Science from 1995, AB Communication from 2008, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management and BS Travel Management from 2009, and AB Behavioral Science from 2010. None of those appear on the programme list today, so treat older references to them as historical.
