Courses Offered at Bicol University

Bicol University is not one campus, it is eight, and the same degree is rarely available on more than one of them. Applying to the wrong campus is the most common avoidable mistake here, because the campus you choose at application time is the campus you get.

Below is everything Bicol University publishes on its Programs Offered page, grouped by campus rather than alphabetically, because that is the only grouping that helps you decide where to apply. The Bicol University Daraga campus profile carries the address and contact details for that campus.

Legazpi West campus

The largest concentration of colleges, and where most of the professional and health programmes sit.

College of Education

  • Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education

  • Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Values Education

Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance and Development: Bachelor of Public Administration

College of Dental Medicine: Doctor of Dental Medicine

Also on Legazpi West: the College of Law, the College of Medicine, the Graduate School and the Open University.

BS Meteorology is the standout. Undergraduate meteorology is offered at a handful of Philippine universities, and Bicol University is one of them. It is a science degree, not an engineering one, and it does not carry a PRC licensure examination.

Legazpi East campus

College of Engineering

  • BS Chemical Engineering
  • BS Civil Engineering
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • BS Geodetic Engineering
  • BS Mechanical Engineering
  • BS Mining Engineering

Institute of Design and Architecture: BS Architecture

College of Industrial Technology

  • Bachelor of Industrial Technology, majors in Automotive, Construction, Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Technology
  • BS Food Technology
  • Bachelor of Industrial Design
  • Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, specialisations in Drafting Technology, Electrical Technology, Food and Service Management, and Garments Fashion and Design

All six engineering programmes and Architecture lead to Professional Regulation Commission licensure examinations. Bachelor of Industrial Technology and Industrial Design do not. That distinction trips people up, because the CIT list sits right next to the engineering list. Our courses with board exams guide sets out which degrees carry a licence and which do not.

Daraga campus

College of Social Sciences and Philosophy

  • Bachelor of Arts in Peace Studies
  • Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy
  • Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
  • Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
  • BS Psychology
  • BS Social Work

College of Business, Economics and Management

  • BS Accountancy
  • BS Economics
  • BS Entrepreneurship
  • BS Business Administration, majors in Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing Management, Microfinance and Operations Management

A BSBA major in Microfinance is rare, and so is BA Peace Studies, which very few Philippine universities confer as a standalone degree.

BU Guinobatan

The agricultural campus, and the only one with veterinary medicine.

  • BS Agribusiness
  • BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering
  • BS Agriculture
  • BS Forestry
  • BS Development Communication
  • BS Food Technology
  • Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, majors in Animal Production and Agricultural Crop Production

BU Tabaco

  • Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in Science and Math
  • BS Entrepreneurship
  • BS Fisheries
  • BS Food Technology
  • BS Nursing
  • BS Social Work

Fisheries is only offered here, and Tabaco is the second campus running BS Nursing after Legazpi West.

BU Gubat

  • Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in Filipino and Social Studies
  • BS Entrepreneurship, General Track
  • BS Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness Track
  • BS Business Administration, major in Microfinance

BU Polangui

The most technology-heavy of the satellite campuses.

  • Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in English and Math
  • BS Automotive Technology
  • BS Computer Engineering
  • BS Computer Science
  • BS Electrical Technology
  • BS Electronics Engineering
  • BS Electronics Technology

  • BS Information Technology
  • BS Information Technology (Animation)
  • BS Mechanical Technology
  • BS Nursing
  • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education, Information and Communication Technology
  • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education, Home Economics

Computer Engineering and Electronics Engineering are at Polangui, not at the College of Engineering in Legazpi East. If those are your target, you apply to Polangui.

BU Ligao

BU Ligao appears in the campus menu on the Bicol University site, but the Programs Offered page carries no programme list for it. Ask the university directly rather than assuming a course is or is not available there.

Post-baccalaureate and graduate

The College of Medicine runs a post-baccalaureate Doctor of Medicine, and the College of Law runs a post-baccalaureate programme. The Graduate School list is one of the deepest of any regional state university: eight doctoral programmes including PhDs in Educational Foundations, Mathematics Education, Filipino, Public Administration, Development Management, and Peace and Security Administration; roughly seventy master's degrees, many with thesis and non-thesis versions and several delivered through the Open University; and around twenty-four diploma programmes. If postgraduate study is the goal, our master's degree guide covers what to check before you enrol.

How BUCET admission works

Entry to undergraduate programmes runs through the Bicol University College Entrance Test (BUCET), which the university describes as a three-hour examination with sub-tests in Language Proficiency in English, Mathematics, Science and Reading Comprehension.

The mechanic that matters: admission is based on a Composite Rating, not the test score alone. Bicol University states that the BUCET Composite Rating consists of three components: the BUCET score, the applicant's general weighted average in Grades 9 to 11, and the applicant's socio-economic profile. The university does not publish the weight given to each, so a strong test score alone is not the whole picture, and anyone quoting a precise percentage split is working from an older or unofficial source.

You are eligible to apply if you are a student of a DepEd-recognised high school expecting to graduate at the end of the school year, a senior high school graduate who has not taken and is not taking any college subjects, or an ALS graduate who has not enrolled in any college course.

The current iBU admission checklist for BUCET applicants asks for:

  • A correctly and completely accomplished BUCET Application Form, signed by both the applicant and the school principal
  • Grade 9 to Grade 11 high school academic ratings affixed on the reverse of the application form, signed by the principal and bearing the school dry seal
  • Authenticated photocopies of SF10 (formerly Form 137) for Grades 9 to 11 and SF9 (formerly Form 138) for Grade 12, with originals brought for authentication
  • An unedited, unfiltered studio 2x2 photograph on a white background with name tag and signature, uploaded to the BUCET application portal
  • Household income documents: parents' Income Tax Returns or Certificates of Tax Exemption, OFW contracts of service showing salary, an affidavit of guardianship with the guardian's financial documents where applicable, a death certificate for a deceased parent, or a 4Ps Oath of Commitment
  • Where applicable: a valid Solo Parent ID under RA 11861, a PWD ID under RA 7277, or NCIP certification for Indigenous Peoples applicants

ALS graduates submit an ALS Certificate of Rating and Certificate of Completion plus an ALS Certificate of Grades. If you came through the Alternative Learning System, our ALS to college pathway guide covers what else to expect.

Bicol University also runs a separate HISET for applicants to its laboratory high school, requiring Form 137 for Grades 1 to 5, a Grade 6 enrolment certification and a 2x2 photo.

Medicine

The College of Medicine has its own checklist: an unexpired NMAT result of at least 65 percentile rank within its two-year validity, a certificate of general weighted average of at least 85%, an official transcript of records, an unexpired NBI clearance, a PSA birth certificate, a good moral certificate, two recommendation letters from former professors, and a non-refundable application fee paid at the University Cashier. Our NMAT guide explains how the percentile rank is computed.

Application windows and test dates change every cycle and are announced by Bicol University on its own admission pages and the BUCET portal. Never plan around a date from a third-party page.

What Bicol University does not publish

A tuition table. Bicol University is a state university, so tuition and other school fees for qualified Filipino undergraduates are covered by Republic Act 10931. The law covers fees only, not books, board, transport or living costs. There is no per-programme fee schedule on the public site.

BUCET cut-off scores, or the weight of each Composite Rating component. The university names the three components but not their percentages, and publishes no per-programme cut-off or slot count. Any "BUCET passing score" or precise weighting you find online is someone's estimate or an outdated figure.

A programme list for BU Ligao. As noted above, the campus is listed but its offerings are not.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many campuses does Bicol University have?

The university site lists Legazpi West, Legazpi East, Daraga, Guinobatan, Tabaco, Gubat, Polangui and Ligao. The Programs Offered page publishes undergraduate lists for all of these except Ligao, which appears in the campus menu but carries no programme list on that page.

What is the BUCET?

The Bicol University College Entrance Test, a three-hour examination with sub-tests in Language Proficiency in English, Mathematics, Science and Reading Comprehension. Bicol University states that admission is based on a BUCET Composite Rating made up of the BUCET score, the applicant's general weighted average in Grades 9 to 11, and the applicant's socio-economic profile. It does not publish how each component is weighted.

Which Bicol University campus offers engineering?

Legazpi East. The College of Engineering there publishes Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Geodetic, Mechanical and Mining Engineering. Separately, BU Polangui offers Computer Engineering and Electronics Engineering, and BU Guinobatan offers Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.

Does Bicol University offer veterinary medicine?

Yes. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is published under BU Guinobatan, which also hosts the College of Veterinary Medicine. Guinobatan is the agricultural campus and carries Agribusiness, Agriculture, Forestry and Development Communication as well.
